The Battle for Vaping in Israel: Final Call to Action

The Department of Health and Education in Israel has recently issued an invitation for public responses to their newly released Action Plan titled “Coping with the Damage of Electronic Cigarettes.” (Here you can find the english version)

This plan proposes several amendments to the existing tobacco law, including the prohibition of flavoured vaping liquids, equalising tax rates for traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes, and even challenging the widely accepted notion that vaping poses a lower health risk compared to conventional smoking.

While the government argues that these changes aim to protect public health, we strongly disagree. Help us to fight this madness!

The Department’s “Call For Evidence” is open till the 4th of September!

How to Participate:

  1. You can just send an email to this address: h.promotion@MOH.GOV.IL
  2. Offer insights to the government on how such drastic regulations could adversely impact you, fellow consumers, and overall public health.
Should you require scientific context, refer to our comprehensive submission (available here) and utilise the amassed scientific data.
Alternatively, you can share your personal vaping experience and highlight how it helped you quit smoking.
  3. Share with others: Encourage your vaping community, friends, and family members to join the consultation and make their voices heard. Unity among vapers can amplify the impact of your collective message.

We want to reiterate just how perilous the upcoming legislative changes could be for our vaping friends in Israel and for public health at large. These aren’t minor adjustments; they’re substantial shifts that could compel many in our community to turn to the black market or revert to smoking traditional cigarettes.

Moreover, the proposed changes would erect considerable barriers for those considering making the switch to a less harmful alternative such as vaping. This risks perpetuating the very misinformation we’ve been fighting against, thus causing more harm than protection to public health.

Now, more than ever, it’s imperative for each of us to take decisive action. This is our last call to rally, to scrutinise these proposed laws, and to engage in open debate before they become enacted and irrevocable.

Together, we can — and must — make our voices heard to protect our choices and our health. Thank you for being an essential part of this community. Your voice matters, and it’s time to use it.

Vaping can save 200 million lives and flavours play a key role in helping smokers quit. However, policymakers want to limit or ban flavours, putting our effort to end smoking-related deaths in jeopardy.
