What is the WVA Academy and Who is it For?

WVA Academy is a comprehensive course for anyone who wants to build the skills and knowledge essential to successfully advocate for vaping. Leaders of vaping associations and communities, passionate bloggers and those just starting out in vape advocacy are all encouraged to apply.

After completing the course, participants can expect:

  • A better understanding of the media and its impact;
  • The ability to segment media and target the right journalists;
  • Publishing op-eds in different media outlets;
  • Increased confidence in nurturing relationships with the politicians;
  • The ability to successfully combat misinformation;
  • Enhanced knowledge of communication, media outreach, campaigning/activism and leadership that will allow the leaders of vape communities to effectively reach our common goals.

WVA Academy Course Outline

The WVA Academy course will consist of 5 topics:

  • Media Engagement: writing op-eds, conducting interviews and securing media coverage
  • Fighting misinformation
  • Campaigns/Activism on the ground
  • Engaging policymakers
  • Digital advocacy

Each topic will be covered during an in-depth Zoom meeting every week and will allow participants to explore the given topics in detail by discussing them with specialists in the relevant fields.

WVA Academy Certification

To receive a certificate of completion for WVA Academy, the participant is required to attend at least 3 out of 5 sessions of the training program.

Format and Timeline

The WVA Academy will be held via Zoom. The participants will be provided with the link of the webinars after the successful registration.

1-hour webinars will be held each Tuesday, 19:00 CET every week.

The estimated start date for the training is March 2nd, 2023. The estimated end date of the training is the 30th of March, 2023.

Participation

Participation is free of charge. 

Applications will open on January 31. Successful candidates will be shortlisted and contacted.

You have any questions?

Lika Janelidze is a program manager at the World Vapers’ Alliance and the main point of contact for the WVA Academy.

Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, Lika studied Business Administration at the Agricultural University of Georgia and has experience in various non-profit organisations as well as businesses. Lika has also led activist groups across Europe and is passionate about harm reduction policies.
