The World Vapers’ Alliance (WVA) warns that the European Commission’s “Better Regulation” agenda is drifting away from its purpose by sidelining the very citizens it claims to serve and using consultations as rubber stamps instead of evidence to guide policymaking.
As part of the call for evidence, the Secretariat-General states: “The Commission’s better regulation framework – recognised as one of the best in the world by the OECD – is a core asset of EU policymaking. Commission proposals must continue to be based on the best available evidence, including through consultations of affected stakeholders, with a view to delivering the desired impacts on the ground.”
Given the willingness to ignore key evidence in the past, many would question the honesty in the European Commission’s apparent desire to adhere to evidence-based policymaking.
In the World Vapers’ Alliance contribution to the Commission’s call for evidence, the consumer group stresses that citizens must remain at the heart of EU lawmaking and be given a real, practical chance to shape rules that directly affect their lives.
