Bloomberg the man who loves to ban

Last week the World Vapers’ Alliance warned us about billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s commitment to further his misinformation campaign on vaping. Per the announcement from Bloomberg’s organization last week the aim is to focus on traditional anti-smoking policies, such as extending warning labels and smoke-free zones and support of various anti-vaping policies, such as flavor bans.

But why does Michael Bloomberg believe that he knows best and should have the authority to force this kind of decision making for adult smokers and vapers?

Bloomberg is notorious for banning things he doesn’t like; back in 2012 when I was still living in NY Mayor Bloomberg proposed banning the sale of large sugary drinks. This plan was later overturned in an appeals court who believed Bloomberg had overstepped his authority.

Other Bloomberg bans consist of a smoking ban, in 2002 Bloomberg banned smoking in NYC bars and restaurants, and then again in 2011 he banned smoking in most outdoor areas, like parks and beaches. New York also became the first large city to ban tobacco sales to people under the age of 21.

Clearly Bloomberg has blatant disdain for smokers and vapers alike, he is disregarding the facts and science and treating us like second-class citizens. If Bloomberg truly wanted to rid the US of smoking that $420 million would be better spent on promoting smokers to make the switch to a much safer alternative.

Bloomberg’s tactical philanthropy gives him the capacity to influence and push his narrative no matter how bad it may be for former smokers that now depend on vapor products to stay off combustibles.

This kind of “big-dollar” philanthropy does more harm to the public than good, but as we all know too well even donated money = power. Fortunately for us vapers he was unable to buy his way into the Presidency but his tirade against anything he does not care for goes on as he tries to micro-manage people’s lives one ban at a time.
