Vaping in India with Jagannath Sarangapani

In today’s episode we have Jagannath Sarangapani as our special guest. He is a vaping activist and member of the Association of Vapers India (AVI). Towards the end of 2019, the Indian government implemented a prohibition on vaping products. This decision, initially announced by the finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, and later approved by parliament, not only prohibits the sale, manufacturing, and distribution of vaping devices but also includes a ban on their importation, exportation, transport, storage, and advertisement. Our community manager, Liza Katsiashvili, engages in a conversation with Jagannath Sarangapani to discuss the severe implications of this ban and explore the potential for reducing tobacco-related harm (THR) in India. Jagannath also shares his personal journey as a former smoker who successfully quit a 40-cigarette-per-day habit by transitioning to vaping, which fuels his strong dedication to this cause.
