US Lawmakers Push Against THR Strategies Despite The Data in Their Favour

Instead of taking note of the success achieved by countries such as Sweden and the UK at reducing smoking rates by endorsing the use of safer nicotine alternatives, US lawmakers remain set on wiping vaping products off the market.

Last August, over 30 state, territory, and Washington D.C. attorneys general (AGs), wrote to the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) urging the agency to eliminate most vaping products on the US market.

While on unveiling a recent plan to cut the cancer death rate in half, President Joe Biden revealed that the administration will invest $15 million in smoking cessation programs targeting menthol and flavoured tobacco products. Instead of insisting on stringent regulations and bans, and relying solely on federal regulatory bodies for enforcement of current laws, these Attorneys General could urge state legislators to allocate their tobacco revenue towards combating youth vaping at the source.
