Brussel, 13 april 2026 \u2014 Zeven consumentenorganisaties uit heel Europa hebben een overeenkomst ondertekend open brief<\/a> aan de voorzitter van de Europese Commissie, Ursula von der Leyen, en de commissaris voor Volksgezondheid, Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi, met het verzoek om de koers van de aanstaande herziening van de tabaksproductenrichtlijn te heroverwegen.<\/p>\n

De brief is een directe betwisting van het evaluatierapport van de Commissie over de TPD (Tobacco Products Directive), dat eerder deze maand is gepubliceerd. De brief roept de Commissie op om een risico-evenredig kader toe te passen, de toegang van volwassenen tot minder schadelijke alternatieven te beschermen en te leren van landen zoals... Zweden, Tsjechi\u00eb en Griekenland<\/a>, dat een van de snelste dalingen in roken in Europa wist te realiseren door zich te richten op schadebeperking in plaats van op het beperken ervan.<\/p>\n

De ondertekenaars vertegenwoordigen gebruikers van e-sigaretten, gebruikers van nicotinezakjes en voorstanders van schadebeperking uit Kroati\u00eb, Sloveni\u00eb, Tsjechi\u00eb, Griekenland en andere landen.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, zei: "De evaluatie van de Commissie wees precies de verkeerde kant op. Het legt de basis voor meer beperkingen, meer verboden en minder keuze voor rokers die willen stoppen. Consumenten in heel Europa volgen dit proces op de voet en zullen een herziening van de TPD (Tobacco Products Directive) die het moeilijker maakt om toegang te krijgen tot minder schadelijke alternatieven voor sigaretten, niet accepteren.
