Als dat zo is, heeft Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi het tegendeel bewezen met alweer een misleidende uitspraak over vapen en nicotine pouches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In een interview met <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/news\/exclusive-eu-health-chief-100-convinced-new-products-as-harmful-as-cigarettes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Euractiv<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi beweerde dat vapen, nicotinezakjes en verhitte tabaksproducten &quot;honderd procent&quot; net zo schadelijk zijn als sigaretten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deze uitspraak spreekt duidelijk decennia aan wetenschappelijk bewijs tegen en dreigt miljoenen rokers ervan te weerhouden over te stappen op minder schadelijke alternatieven. Desondanks is het de moeite waard om de beweringen van V\u00e1rhelyi te weerleggen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Is vapen echt zo schadelijk als roken?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meer dan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1dDaKKxylS4wuwLmw8L_neBco1Z3KlkQEdU-tzwlAotI\/edit?tab=t.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 organisaties en overheidsinstellingen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ze zijn het erover eens dat vapen minder schadelijk is dan roken. Onder hen is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180206014350\/https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/phe-publishes-independent-expert-e-cigarettes-evidence-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volksgezondheid Engeland<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, waarin werd gesteld dat vapen ongeveer 95 procent minder schadelijk is dan roken.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220103083423\/https:\/\/www.rcplondon.ac.uk\/projects\/outputs\/nicotine-without-smoke-tobacco-harm-reduction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Het Koninklijk College van Artsen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> De conclusie luidde tevens dat &quot;het gezondheidsrisico van langdurige inhalatie van damp van de huidige e-sigaretten waarschijnlijk niet meer dan 5 procent bedraagt van de schade die tabaksrook veroorzaakt&quot;, en voegde eraan toe dat e-sigaretten en andere nicotineproducten zonder tabak in het belang van de volksgezondheid gepromoot zouden moeten worden als alternatief voor roken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deze studies tonen niet alleen aan dat vapen minder schadelijk is dan roken, maar ook dat het mensen helpt om te stoppen met roken. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cochranelibrary.com\/cdsr\/doi\/10.1002\/14651858.CD010216.pub10\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het meest recente overzicht van Cochrane<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Onderzoek naar e-sigaretten bevestigt deze conclusie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Er is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/nl_nl\/harm-reduction-vaping-fact-sheet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">uitgebreid onderzoek<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ter ondersteuning van deze bevindingen. Helaas negeert V\u00e1rhelyi in zijn bewering dit bewijs en misleidt hij het publiek over de re\u00eble risico&#039;s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het is echter niet verwonderlijk dat beleidsmakers zoals V\u00e1rhelyi dergelijke uitspraken doen, vooral wanneer ze openlijk zeggen dat ze de richtlijnen van de WHO volgen. Iedereen die de FCTC COP11 in 2025 heeft gevolgd, weet dat de WHO de voordelen van minder schadelijke nicotinealternatieven heeft afgewezen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dit is ondanks het feit dat artikel 1(d) van het FCTC tabaksbestrijding definieert als het omvatten van &quot;schadebeperkingsstrategie\u00ebn&quot; die gericht zijn op het verminderen van tabaksgebruik en blootstelling aan tabaksrook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zelfs op WHO-niveau, tijdens COP11 dit jaar, hebben verschillende landen, waaronder Albani\u00eb, Servi\u00eb, Noord-Macedoni\u00eb, Nieuw-Zeeland, Saint Kitts en Nevis en andere, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/vapers_alliance\/status\/1992932134042902959?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sprak zich uit <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ter ondersteuning van op bewijs gebaseerd beleid en pleitte voor beslissingen die gebaseerd zijn op gedegen wetenschap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Als een instelling met een uitstekende reputatie heeft de WHO een aanzienlijke rol in het vormgeven van het wereldwijde gezondheidsbeleid. Daarom is het zeer zorgwekkend dat de organisatie een misleidend verhaal promoot dat zich richt op verboden. In de praktijk voedt deze aanpak desinformatie en moedigt het beleidsmakers over de hele wereld aan om valse beweringen over minder schadelijke nicotinealternatieven te herhalen, ondanks het groeiende aantal wetenschappelijke bewijzen die het tegendeel aantonen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ondanks het offici\u00eble EU-doel om een rookvrije generatie te bereiken, gedefinieerd als een rookprevalentie van minder dan 5 procent in 2040, ligt het blok ver achter op schema. Volgens de meest recente cijfers<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/eurobarometer\/surveys\/detail\/2995\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eurobarometer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Volgens het onderzoek zou de EU, in het huidige tempo, deze doelstelling pas rond het jaar 2100 bereiken. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eureporter.co\/economy\/taxation\/2025\/09\/01\/global-public-health-experts-urge-european-commission-to-reject-tax-raid-on-harm-reduction-nicotine-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> En <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/nl_nl\/wva-open-letter-100000-europeans-reject-eus-attack-on-vaping-and-pouches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consumentengroepen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hebben gewaarschuwd dat de weigering van de EU om minder schadelijke alternatieven te omarmen een belangrijke reden is voor deze trage vooruitgang.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commissaris V\u00e1rhelyi is het aan consumenten en het publiek verplicht om zijn uitspraken te corrigeren, in gesprek te gaan met onafhankelijke wetenschappers en consumentenvertegenwoordigers, en zich te committeren aan op feiten gebaseerde communicatie over nicotine. De EU kan roken niet op geloofwaardige wijze bestrijden zolang haar eigen commissaris voor Volksgezondheid desinformatie verspreidt die rokers ertoe aanzet het gevaarlijkste product van allemaal te blijven gebruiken: sigaretten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het is tijd dat de EU eindelijk steunt wat werkt.
