Het was een belangrijke week voor de wereldwijde vermindering van de schade door tabaksgebruik. Voorvechters hebben zich ingezet: ze spraken tijdens hoorzittingen, publiceerden scherpe blogs en bestreden stigmatisering waar dat het meest nodig was.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eerst Zuid-Afrika. Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, nam deel aan een belangrijke hoorzitting georganiseerd door het Zuid-Afrikaanse parlement. Naast het Lesedi Black Business Forum leverde WVA deskundige input over de controversi\u00eble wet op de controle op tabak en elektronische afgiftesystemen. Ondertussen publiceerde Joseph Magero van de Campaign for Safer Alternatives (CASA) een scherpe waarschuwing in zijn <\/span>laatste blog<\/span><\/a>. Hij legt uit hoe strenge of slecht gehandhaafde regelgeving voor vapes in Afrika averechts kan werken en ervoor kan zorgen dat producten in de illegaliteit verdwijnen in plaats van de volksgezondheid te verbeteren:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c"Hoewel beleidsmakers vaak handelen met de intentie om de volksgezondheid, en dan met name de jeugd, te beschermen tegen de onbekende factoren van nieuwe nicotine-afgiftesystemen, kunnen de onbedoelde gevolgen van strenge, verkeerd afgestemde of slecht gehandhaafde regelgeving de deur openzetten voor zwarte marktactiviteiten."\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
