Brussel, 17 juni 2025<\/strong> \u2013 De World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) heeft een open brief<\/a> aan de Europese ministers van Volksgezondheid, voorafgaand aan de vergadering van de EPSCO-raad van deze week, waarin de toekomst van het tabaks- en nicotinebeleid wordt besproken. De brief dringt er bij beleidsmakers op aan om prioriteit te geven aan schadebeperking en ervoor te zorgen dat volwassen rokers toegang hebben tot veiligere alternatieven, zoals vapen en nicotinezakjes.<\/p>\n

Landen als Zweden, Tsjechi\u00eb en Griekenland lopen voorop in schadebeperking en vormen een voorbeeld voor de rest van Europa. Zweden staat op het punt het eerste rookvrije land van Europa te worden. Griekenland heeft een dramatische daling van zes procentpunten in het aantal rokers gerealiseerd, terwijl Tsjechi\u00eb een daling van zeven procentpunten in het aantal rokers heeft geregistreerd ten opzichte van de meest recente Eurobarometer-enqu\u00eates.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, zei:<\/p>\n

\u201cDe meedogenloze aanvallen op vapen en andere nicotineproducten moeten stoppen. Deze producten zijn de oplossing, niet het probleem. Het bewijs uit Zweden, Tsjechi\u00eb en Griekenland is duidelijk: het omarmen van schadebeperking redt levens en versnelt de vooruitgang naar een rookvrije toekomst. Het is tijd dat elk Europees land deze succesverhalen volgt.\u201d

Alberto G\u00f3mez Hern\u00e1ndez, beleids- en belangenbehartigingsmanager voor de WVA, voegde toe:<\/p>\n

\u201cHet bewijs is overweldigend: schadebeperking werkt. Zweden, Tsjechi\u00eb en Griekenland hebben dit bewezen. Deze landen ondersteunen veiligere nicotineproducten via schadebeperkingsstrategie\u00ebn en zijn daarin geslaagd. Europese leiders hebben een re\u00eble kans om roken te stoppen. De weg is duidelijk. Beleidsmakers moeten nu in actie komen.\u201d

De open brief benadrukt het belang van evidence-based regelgeving en waarschuwt voor beleid dat onbedoeld het aantal rokers zou kunnen verhogen door de toegang van volwassenen tot vapen en andere producten met een verlaagd risico te beperken. De WVA benadrukt dat keuzevrijheid voor de consument, ondersteund door gedegen wetenschappelijke kennis, essentieel is voor het bereiken van een rookvrij Europa.<\/p>\n
