Sofia, 25 februari 2025 \u2013 De World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) veroordeelt met klem het roekeloze besluit van het Bulgaarse parlement om verbod<\/a> alle vape-producten. Dit misplaatste beleid, aangewakkerd door een tragisch incident met een THC-vape op de zwarte markt, zal het echte probleem alleen maar verergeren: de ongereguleerde zwarte markt voor gevaarlijke producten.<\/p>\n

Bulgarije heeft met 37% al het hoogste rookpercentage in de EU, 50% hoger dan het EU-gemiddelde. Ondanks deze alarmerende statistiek hebben wetgevers ervoor gekozen een bewezen schadebeperkend middel dat rokers helpt te stoppen, af te schaffen. In plaats van de hoofdoorzaak aan te pakken \u2013 illegale en ongereguleerde producten \u2013 heeft de overheid gekozen voor een beleid dat volwassen vapers terug zal dwingen te gaan roken of in handen zal laten vallen van zwarte dealers.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, zei:<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Dit verbod is niet alleen irrationeel, het is ook gevaarlijk. Het verbieden van gereguleerde vape-producten zal het probleem van illegale vapes niet oplossen, maar juist verergeren. <\/em><\/strong>De tragische dood van een tiener in Pleven werd veroorzaakt door een THC-vape op de zwarte markt, niet door legale nicotineproducten. <\/em>Door legale alternatieven te verbieden, zet Bulgarije de deur open voor meer onveilige producten die de markt overspoelen.<\/em><\/strong>"

E-sigaretten zijn niet de vijand \u2013 ze zijn het meest effectieve middel dat velen van ons hebben gevonden om te stoppen met roken. Slechts 3% van de Bulgaren gebruikt momenteel e-sigaretten, maar toch zijn ze al de populairste manier om te stoppen met roken in ons land. Landen zoals Zweden, Nieuw-Zeeland en het VK, die een beleid van schadebeperking voeren, liggen op koers om de rookvrije doelstelling te bereiken (<5% rookpercentage). Met de huidige koers zal Bulgarije deze doelstelling nooit halen.<\/p>\n

In een open brief,<\/strong><\/a> De WVA roept de Bulgaarse wetgevers op om dit rampzalige beleid te heroverwegen. Op bewijs gebaseerde regelgeving die veiligere alternatieven bevordert in plaats van een volledig verbod, is essentieel om het aantal rokers te verminderen en de volksgezondheid te beschermen. De definitieve stemming wordt begin maart verwacht.<\/p>\n
