De interventies omvatten gedragsondersteuning door zorgverleners, digitale interventies om te stoppen met roken en farmacologische behandelingen in een eerste richtlijn over stoppen met roken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De WHO beveelt varenicline, nicotinevervangende therapie (NRT), bupropion en cytisine aan als effectieve behandelingen voor het stoppen met roken. Hoewel de richtlijn een keerpunt in de volksgezondheid markeert, brengt ze ook de grote uitdagingen op het gebied van betaalbaarheid aan het licht waarmee rokers in Sub-Sahara Afrika worden geconfronteerd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>De betaalbaarheidscrisis in Afrika<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ondanks de potenti\u00eble voordelen van deze richtlijnen is de realiteit voor 77 miljoen volwassen rokers in Sub-Sahara Afrika somber. De kosten van aanbevolen behandelingen blijven voor het grootste deel van de bevolking onbetaalbaar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volgens <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC10276598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recente studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, De gemiddelde prijs van een volledige NRT-kuur of voorgeschreven medicatie kan het maandinkomen van veel Afrikaanse huishoudens overschrijden. Deze financi\u00eble barri\u00e8re maakt het voor miljoenen rokers bijna onmogelijk om toegang te krijgen tot effectieve stoptherapie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De ongelijkheid in toegang tot behandelingen om te stoppen met roken is een sprekend voorbeeld van de bredere ongelijkheid in de gezondheidszorg die blijft bestaan tussen landen met een hoog en een laag inkomen. In veel Afrikaanse landen zijn de zorgstelsels al overbelast en zijn er beperkte middelen beschikbaar voor preventieve zorg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De hoge kosten van stoptherapie\u00ebn verergeren deze uitdagingen nog verder, waardoor veel rokers geen haalbare opties hebben om te stoppen. Zuid-Afrika is momenteel het enige land in Afrika met specifieke richtlijnen voor stoppen met roken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het is verbijsterend dat schadebeperking niet is opgenomen in de voorstellen van de WHO om de rookcrisis aan te pakken.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De meeste Afrikaanse landen hebben minimale, of helemaal geen, middelen voor tabakscontrole.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schadebeperking door tabak is echter een goedkope maatregel voor overheden, aangezien fabrikanten de kosten voor onderzoek en ontwikkeling dragen, terwijl consumenten de aankoopkosten betalen.
