Buenos Aires, 12.12.2023.<\/strong> \u2013 De Argentijnse vapersvereniging Asovape Argentina en de World Vapers' Alliance hebben een open brief<\/a> aan de president van Argentini\u00eb, Javier Milei, waarin hij oproept tot intrekking van de administratieve bepaling van ANMAT die de commercialisering van e-sigaretten verbiedt.<\/p>\n

Bepaling 3226\/2011<\/a> De Nationale Administratie voor Geneesmiddelen, Voedsel en Medische Technologie (ANMAT) heeft op 6 mei 2011 een verbod uitgevaardigd op de import, distributie, marketing, reclame en promotie van e-sigaretten.<\/p>\n

De ondertekenende verenigingen leggen in de brief uit dat talrijke studies die sinds de inwerkingtreding van het verbod zijn uitgevoerd, het aanzienlijk lagere risicoprofiel en het nut van deze hulpmiddelen voor het stoppen met roken hebben aangetoond, evenals het lage gezondheidsrisico van nicotine. Zij stellen tevens dat het verbod onverenigbaar is met de individuele vrijheid van Argentijnse volwassenen en het recht op vrije persoonlijkheidsontwikkeling, informatie en gezondheid van gebruikers en rokers.<\/p>\n

Juan Facundo Teme, voorzitter van de Argentijnse vapersvereniging Asovape Argentina, merkte op:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHet verbod schendt de rechten en vrijheden van Argentijnse volwassenen en moet worden ingetrokken. <\/em><\/strong>De staat is niet degene die Argentijnen moet voorschrijven hoe ze nicotine moeten consumeren en moet de beslissingen respecteren van mensen die ervoor kiezen om te vapen om het op een minder schadelijke manier te consumeren. Bovendien zijn alle argumenten waarop het verbod gebaseerd was, weerlegd.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Elk jaar 225,000<\/a> Argentijnen worden ziek en bijna 60,000<\/a> Argentijnen sterven aan ziekten die verband houden met roken. Argentini\u00eb heeft een rookpercentage van 24.5%<\/a>, de op \u00e9\u00e9n na hoogste in Latijns-Amerika en een van de hoogste ter wereld.<\/p>\n

Over het hoge aantal rokers in Argentini\u00eb voegde Teme toe:<\/p>\n

\u201cRoken is een enorm probleem voor Argentini\u00eb en het verbod heeft het alleen maar verergerd. Het verspreidt de misvatting dat vapen hetzelfde of erger is dan roken, maakt het voor miljoenen rokers moeilijk om over te stappen op een veiliger alternatief en heeft duizenden vapers teruggedreven naar tabak. Met duidelijke informatie en goede regelgeving voor vapen zouden we het aantal rokers snel en aanzienlijk kunnen verminderen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Alberto G\u00f3mez Hern\u00e1ndez, beleidsmanager van de World Vapers' Alliance, merkte op:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cArgentini\u00eb is een van de landen met de hoogste restricties op het gebied van vapen in de hele regio en heeft daardoor een van de hoogste rookpercentages. Het staat op de tweede plaats, na Chili, dat onlangs een wet heeft aangenomen die vapen reguleert, zodat volwassenen ermee kunnen stoppen met roken.,<\/strong> Zoals Brazili\u00eb ook doet. Argentini\u00eb mag niet achterblijven en moet rokers respecteren die ervoor kiezen om nicotine op een minder schadelijke manier te consumeren.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, voegde toe:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDe Argentijnse aanpak van vapen is achterhaald en onverenigbaar met het waarborgen van de individuele vrijheid van consumenten. Argentini\u00eb heeft nu een grote kans om het voortouw te nemen en de aanpak van landen als Zweden of het Verenigd Koninkrijk over te nemen. Die landen respecteren het recht van gebruikers om te kiezen en verbeteren tegelijkertijd de volksgezondheid.<\/strong> Zweden staat op het punt het eerste rookvrije land te worden dankzij deze aanpak, en het Verenigd Koninkrijk vermindert het aantal rokers snel. We moedigen president Milei en zijn regering aan om deze voorbeelden te volgen.
