Het wetsvoorstel "Controle op tabaksproducten en elektronische toedieningssystemen" heeft als doel "het aantal gevallen van tabaksgerelateerde ziekte, invaliditeit en overlijden te verminderen", maar gezien de strenge beperkingen die het oplegt aan veiligere nicotinealternatieven, zal het precies het tegenovergestelde effect hebben van wat het beoogt.<\/h4>\n

Zuid-Afrika's controversi\u00eble "\u201cWet ter controle van tabaksproducten en elektronische bezorgsystemen<\/a>\u201cHet wetsvoorstel heeft aanzienlijke publieke verontwaardiging opgeroepen vanwege de voorgestelde verboden, prijsverhogingen en strenge straffen. Het wetsvoorstel beoogt de uitstalling van tabaks- en vapeproducten in winkels te verbieden, ook in gespecialiseerde tabakswinkels. Het leidt tot aanzienlijke prijsverhogingen voor sigaretten, maar ook voor veiligere nicotinealternatieven, en introduceert een nieuwe accijns op alle nicotineproducten.<\/p>\n

Tabakschadebeperking<\/a> Experts van de THR (The Harm Reduction) hebben herhaaldelijk betoogd dat het wetsvoorstel elektronische toedieningssystemen, waaronder vapes, onterecht op \u00e9\u00e9n hoop gooit met traditionele tabak, waardoor inspanningen om de schade te beperken worden belemmerd. Voorstanders van vapen, zoals Tshepo Ranko en Dr. Kgosi Letlape, uiten hun bezorgdheid over deze aanpak en benadrukken de ethische verantwoordelijkheid om rokers die op zoek zijn naar veiligere alternatieven te informeren over producten die de schade beperken. Als voorzitter van de African Harm Reduction Alliance vreest Letlape dat het wetsvoorstel nicotinegebruikers marginaliseert, waaronder degenen die voor vapen hebben gekozen als een veiliger alternatief voor sigaretten.<\/p>\n
