Helsinki, 17 november 2023 \u2013<\/strong> De recente acties van de Finse regering voorstel<\/a> Het plan om de belastingen op nicotine pouches te verhogen, heeft kritiek uitgelokt van de World Vapers' Alliance (WVA). Het huidige voorstel zou de prijs van een doosje nicotine pouches met ongeveer 2,5 euro verhogen. Deze stap, die erop gericht is om rookloze nicotineproducten onder de tabaksbelasting te brengen, wordt gezien als een aanzienlijke stap terug in de inspanningen om de schadelijke gevolgen van roken te beperken.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de WVA, uitte zijn bezorgdheid:<\/p>\n

\u201cHet Finse plan om de belastingen op minder schadelijke nicotinealternatieven te verhogen is zeer zorgwekkend. Dit verkleint niet alleen het prijsverschil tussen dodelijke sigaretten en veiligere alternatieven, maar ondermijnt ook rechtstreeks de doelstellingen op het gebied van de volksgezondheid. Door producten zoals nicotinezakjes duurder te maken, riskeren we rokers te ontmoedigen om over te stappen op deze minder schadelijke alternatieven.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Het voorstel, dat de wetgeving inzake tabaksbelasting wil wijzigen, omvat ook rookvrije nicotineproducten, waaronder nicotinezakjes. De WVA waarschuwt dat dergelijke belastingverhogingen onevenredig grote gevolgen zullen hebben voor lage-inkomensgroepen, die statistisch gezien een hoger rookpercentage hebben.<\/p>\n

Landl gaf verder commentaar:<\/p>\n

\u201c"Het opleggen van hogere belastingen op producten die de schadelijke gevolgen van roken verminderen, treft de meest kwetsbare groepen het hardst. Dit zijn dezelfde groepen met de hoogste rookpercentages. In plaats van hen betaalbare alternatieven te bieden om te stoppen met roken, drijft de overheid hen terug naar de schadelijkere gewoonte. Deze stap van de Finse overheid is een stap in de verkeerde richting die de voordelen voor de volksgezondheid negeert en de sociale ongelijkheid vergroot."\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

De World Vapers' Alliance stelde dat de Finse wetgevers niet ver hoeven te zoeken naar succesvolle voorbeelden van schadebeperking. Zweden is op weg om het eerste rookvrije land ter wereld te worden dankzij zijn progressieve beleid op het gebied van schadebeperking.
