In 2022 erkende de Belgische Hoge Gezondheidsraad in een rapport aan de regering dat vapen minder schadelijk is dan roken en adviseerde rokers over te stappen op vapen. Nu dringen Europese leden van de World Vapers' Alliance er bij de Belgische regering op aan om schadebeperking als prioriteit te stellen tijdens het komende voorzitterschap van de Raad, vanwege het gebrek aan vooruitgang.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Vorige week publiceerde Politico een werkprogramma van het Belgische voorzitterschap waarin de vijf prioriteiten op het gebied van gezondheid werden besproken, waaronder de veerkracht van de gezondheid en de gezondheidszorg, gezondheidsgelijkheid en een gezonde bevolking.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, zei: \u2019Het terugdringen van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabak zou de hoeksteen moeten vormen van de gezondheidsprioriteiten van de EU, aangezien roken nog steeds de belangrijkste vermijdbare doodsoorzaak in de EU is.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cEr zijn nog steeds meer dan 1,3 miljard mensen die roken, waarvan 88 miljoen alleen al in de Europese Unie. Zweden is een voorloper geworden op het gebied van schadebeperking, met een landelijk risicogebaseerd beleid waarbij de belasting op snus, een traditioneel rookloos tabaksproduct, in 20% wordt verlaagd. We dringen er bij de Belgische regering op aan het Zweedse voorbeeld te volgen en schadebeperking te omarmen als drijvende kracht naar een rookvrij Europa.<\/i>.<\/p>\n
