Brussel, Belgi\u00eb, 17.10.2023 \u2014<\/strong> Europese leden van de World Vapers' Alliance dringen er bij de Belgische regering op aan om schadebeperking als gezondheidsprioriteit te beschouwen tijdens het komende voorzitterschap van de Raad, dat op 1 januari 2024 begint.<\/p>\n

Eerder vandaag publiceerde Politico een werkprogramma van het Belgische voorzitterschap waarin de vijf prioriteiten op het gebied van gezondheid aan bod komen. Hieronder vallen onder meer de veerkracht van de gezondheidszorg en zorgstelsels, gezondheidsgelijkheid en een gezonde bevolking. \u201cHet terugdringen van de schade door tabak zou de hoeksteen van de EU-gezondheidsprioriteiten moeten zijn, aangezien roken nog steeds de belangrijkste vermijdbare doodsoorzaak in de EU is.\u201d<\/strong><\/em> zegt Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cEr zijn meer dan 1,3 miljard mensen die nog steeds roken, 88 miljoen in de Europese Unie<\/a> alleen. Zweden is een voorvechter van schadebeperking geworden, omdat het land overstapt op een landelijk risicogebaseerd beleid voor snus, een traditioneel rookloos tabaksproduct, en de belasting ervan verlaagt tegen 20%. Wij dringen er bij de Belgische regering op aan het Zweedse voorbeeld te volgen en schadebeperking te omarmen als drijvende kracht op weg naar een rookvrij Europa.\u201d<\/strong><\/em> voegde Landl toe.<\/p>\n

\u201cDe EU moet het voor rokers makkelijker maken om te stoppen, niet moeilijker.<\/strong> Het toestaan van smaken en het verlagen van de belasting op producten met een lager risico zijn de meest effectieve manieren gebleken om het stoppen met roken te stimuleren, zoals in Zweden en het Verenigd Koninkrijk.,<\/em>\u201d concludeerde Landl.<\/p>\n
