De World Vapers' Alliance (WVA), een toonaangevende wereldwijde belangenorganisatie voor vapers, heeft ernstige bedenkingen bij het ontwerpvoorstel van de Hongaarse regering. Decreet<\/a> Dit voorstel heeft tot doel de huidige regelgeving met betrekking tot nicotinezakjes en e-sigaretten te wijzigen.<\/p>\n

De voorgestelde regelgeving zou, indien aangenomen, beperkingen invoeren die de toegang tot veiligere alternatieven voor rokers en mogelijkheden voor schadebeperking kunnen belemmeren.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, geeft de volgende reactie:<\/p>\n

\u201c"Hoewel het belangrijk is om de veiligheid en correcte etikettering van nicotineproducten te waarborgen, is het net zo cruciaal om overmatige regelgeving te vermijden die de beschikbaarheid van producten voor schadebeperking zou kunnen belemmeren voor rokers die willen overstappen van traditionele sigaretten."\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

De voorgestelde wijzigingen, met een maximaal nicotinegehalte van 17 mg per consumptie-eenheid, weerspiegelen een aanpak die onbedoeld de aantrekkelijkheid van nicotinezakjes voor rokers die op zoek zijn naar alternatieven, zou kunnen beperken.<\/p>\n

Bovendien maakt de WVA zich zorgen over de mogelijke gevolgen van de voorgestelde wijzigingen in de regelgeving voor e-sigaretten. De amendementen, die betrekking hebben op definities van verpakkingseenheden, nicotinegehaltes en etiketteringsvoorschriften, zouden onnodige beperkingen kunnen opleggen aan e-sigaretten. Hoewel het belangrijk is om gezondheidsrisico's aan te pakken, moeten de voorgestelde wijzigingen zorgvuldig worden ge\u00ebvalueerd om te voorkomen dat rokers worden ontmoedigd om over te stappen op minder schadelijke alternatieven.<\/p>\n

De WVA benadrukt het belang van het bevorderen van strategie\u00ebn ter vermindering van de schade, die rokers in staat stellen weloverwogen keuzes te maken. Hoewel gezondheids- en veiligheidsnormen cruciaal zijn, moeten regelgevingen worden opgesteld met een evenwichtige aanpak die zowel de gezondheid van de consument als de potenti\u00eble levensreddende waarde van deze producten in acht neemt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWij roepen de Hongaarse regering op om de realiteit onder ogen te zien: schadebeperking werkt! Zweden wordt dit jaar het eerste rookvrije land dankzij een consumentvriendelijke aanpak van schadebeperking. Het is hoog tijd om te leren van de Zweedse ervaring en zo duizenden Hongaarse levens te redden. Met een slimme aanpak van schadebeperking kan Hongarije rookvrij worden.\u201d<\/em>, ", voegde Landl eraan toe.<\/p>\n

De wachtperiode voor toetsing en bezwaar door de Europese Commissie en de lidstaten eindigt op 8 november 2023, waarna de Hongaarse regering de voorgestelde regelgeving kan vaststellen.
