Miljoenen rokers wereldwijd kiezen voor vapen als middel om te stoppen met roken. Ondanks de onbetwistbare successen in het be\u00ebindigen van de rookpandemie, bestaan er veel mythes over vapen. Inzicht in de prevalentie van deze mythes en de fundamentele overtuigingen die eraan ten grondslag liggen, is essentieel om het stigma rond vapen te doorbreken.<\/p>\n<p>Dit rapport presenteert de bevindingen van twee landelijke onderzoeken naar schadebeperking in Duitsland en Frankrijk. Het rapport bestaat uit 30 interviews met huisartsen en een kwantitatief onderzoek onder 862 Franse en Duitse rokers. Het belangrijkste doel van deze studie is om meer inzicht te krijgen in de misvattingen over vapen, de impact ervan en hoe deze aan te pakken.<\/p>\n<p>Naast ons eigen onderzoek hebben we een lijst samengesteld met misvattingen over vapen en nicotine in verschillende landen. Deze lijst laat een fundamenteel en wijdverbreid gebrek aan kennis zien over het onderwerp tabakschadebeperking \u2013 inclusief de betekenis van schadebeperking zelf, het belang van nicotinealternatieven en misvattingen over de effecten van nicotine. Bovendien negeren de huidige beleidsmaatregelen de voordelen voor de volksgezondheid die gepaard gaan met een strategie gericht op het minimaliseren van schade. De huidige stoppen-met-roken-benaderingen, die zich richten op het volledig stoppen of het veranderen van het gedrag van rokers, zijn niet succesvol gebleken en hebben de beoogde begunstigden teleurgesteld. Campagnes om te stoppen met roken hebben daarentegen veel meer kans van slagen wanneer ze zich richten op het aanbieden van alternatieven zoals vapen.<\/p>\n<p>Het rapport beveelt aan om op een meer robuuste en wetenschappelijk onderbouwde manier met rokers te communiceren over de re\u00eble risico&#039;s van roken, en hen tevens te informeren over mogelijke nicotinevervangers.
