De Europese Commissie moet de druk van de anti-e-sigarettenbeweging weerstaan, aldus de World Vapers' Alliance. Vorige week kondigde de EU-Commissie de registratie aan van een Europees burgerinitiatief (EBI) met de titel 'Oproep tot een tabaksvrije omgeving en de eerste tabaksvrije generatie in Europa tegen 2030'.<\/h5>\n

De organisatoren, de Spaanse ngo NoFumadores, die zich richt op de volksgezondheid, stellen voor om de verkoop van tabak en nicotineproducten te verbieden aan alle burgers die na 2010 zijn geboren.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, zei: \u201cDit initiatief laat de wijdverbreide misinformatie over verschillende nicotineproducten zien. We kunnen geen uniforme aanpak hanteren voor zeer uiteenlopende producten. Bijna alle schade door roken wordt veroorzaakt door de duizenden andere chemicali\u00ebn in tabaksrook, niet door nicotine. Alternatieven zoals vapen zijn aanzienlijk schadelijker.\u201d<\/i> minder schadelijk<\/i><\/a> en zijn bewezen <\/i>effectieve methoden om te stoppen met roken<\/i><\/a>. Een verbod zal alleen maar levens kosten.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n

Daarnaast stelt de World Vapers' Alliance de praktische uitvoerbaarheid van een verkoopverbod dat gekoppeld is aan het geboortejaar van burgers ter discussie: \u201cHoe zou dit in de praktijk moeten werken? Over een paar jaar zouden winkels de identiteitsbewijzen van 50-jarigen moeten controleren. Dat gaat niet werken. Die regels zullen genegeerd worden, of ze zullen een enorme zwarte markt cre\u00ebren. Beide uitkomsten zijn schadelijk voor de volksgezondheid. Afgezien van de onpraktische aard, zijn generatieverboden mogelijk illegaal in Europa, omdat ze indruisen tegen een gelijke en eerlijke behandeling van EU-burgers \u2013 een pijler van het Verdrag van Lissabon. Bovendien is het moreel onjuist om jongere generaties de mogelijkheid tot schadebeperking te ontzeggen. In plaats van rokers te stigmatiseren, moeten we ze allemaal de kans geven om voor eens en voor altijd te stoppen met roken.\u201d<\/i> voegde Landl toe.<\/p>\n
