We kunnen geen uniforme aanpak hanteren voor zeer uiteenlopende producten. Bijna alle schade door roken wordt veroorzaakt door de duizenden andere chemicali\u00ebn in tabaksrook, niet door nicotine. Een verbod zal alleen maar levens kosten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Daarnaast stelt de World Vapers&#039; Alliance de praktische uitvoerbaarheid van een verkoopverbod dat gekoppeld is aan het geboortejaar van burgers ter discussie:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHoe zou dit in de praktijk moeten werken? Over een paar jaar zouden winkels de identiteitsbewijzen van 50-jarigen moeten controleren. Dat gaat niet werken. Die regels zullen genegeerd worden, of ze zullen een enorme zwarte markt cre\u00ebren. Beide uitkomsten zijn schadelijk voor de volksgezondheid. Afgezien van de onpraktische aard, zijn generatieverboden mogelijk illegaal in Europa, omdat ze indruisen tegen een gelijke en eerlijke behandeling van EU-burgers \u2013 een pijler van het Verdrag van Lissabon. Bovendien is het moreel onjuist om jongere generaties de mogelijkheid tot schadebeperking te ontzeggen. In plaats van rokers te stigmatiseren, moeten we ze allemaal de kans geven om voor eens en voor altijd te stoppen met roken\u201d, voegde Landl eraan toe.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">De organisatoren hebben nu zes maanden de tijd om een miljoen handtekeningen te verzamelen uit ten minste zeven verschillende lidstaten om de Europese Commissie te dwingen op het voorstel te reageren. De registratie van de ECI is geen goedkeuring door de Commissie. Desondanks roepen gebruikers van e-sigaretten, met de tabaksproductenrichtlijn in het vooruitzicht, de Commissie op om voor elk product een risicogebaseerde aanpak te hanteren.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cDe registratie van dit initiatief laat zien dat de druk van tegenstanders van schadelijke producten op de EU-instellingen toeneemt. Dit is geen goed teken met het oog op de aanstaande herziening van de tabaksproductenrichtlijn. Toekomstige regelgeving moet gebaseerd zijn op wetenschap en de ervaringen van miljoenen consumenten. Minder schadelijke producten moeten anders worden behandeld dan sigaretten. Een verbod heeft nooit gewerkt en zal ook nooit werken. Het leidt alleen maar tot enorme onbedoelde gevolgen en schaadt de volksgezondheid.
