Brussel, 29 april 2021. <\/strong>Het eindrapport van het Wetenschappelijk Comit\u00e9 voor Gezondheid, Milieu en Opkomende Risico's (SCHEER) van de EU over e-sigaretten is een stap achteruit voor Europa, aldus de World Vapers' Alliance. Het is gebaseerd op zwakke gegevens en negeert cruciaal wetenschappelijk bewijs, de ervaringen van consumenten en de meningen van deskundigen die tijdens de consultatieperiode zijn ontvangen.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de Wereld Vapers' Alliantie<\/a> (WVA) zei:<\/p>\n

\u201c"Dit rapport is een tragedie voor de volksgezondheid en zal ernstige gevolgen hebben voor zowel rokers als vapers. SCHEER negeert een grote hoeveelheid wetenschappelijk bewijs over vapen, dat allemaal door experts en consumenten aan SCHEER is verstrekt tijdens hun consultatie eerder dit jaar. Ze hebben ervoor gekozen het te negeren. Dit is een klap in het gezicht van vapers en van het gezond verstand."\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Het rapport houdt geen rekening met cruciaal onafhankelijk bewijs van Public Health England, waaruit blijkt dat e-sigaretten 95% minder schadelijk<\/a> dan roken en ontdekte onlangs dat vapen de beste manier is om meest gebruikte middelen om te stoppen met roken<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLanden zoals het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Frankrijk moedigen rokers actief aan om te vapen en over te stappen op dit minder schadelijke alternatief. Als de EU echt rookgerelateerde ziekten wil aanpakken, moet ze al het bewijsmateriaal zorgvuldig bestuderen. Helaas is het SCHEER-rapport bevooroordeeld tegen vapen en zullen de aanbevelingen, indien omgezet in wetgeving, de volksgezondheid schaden", aldus Michael Landl.<\/em><\/p>\n

De komende maanden zullen er verdere wetswijzigingen in de EU plaatsvinden, zoals uiteengezet in het Europese Kankerbestrijdingsplan, waaronder aanpassingen aan de Tabaksproductenrichtlijn (TPD) en de Tabaksaccijnsrichtlijn (TED). In deze context kunnen de bevindingen van de SCHEER-commissie uiteindelijk schadelijk zijn voor de gezondheid van de Europese burgers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHet lijkt erop dat de belangrijkste doelstelling over het hoofd is gezien: het aantal rokers verminderen en door roken veroorzaakte ziekten aanpakken. Vapen is geen roken en moet niet op dezelfde manier worden behandeld. De regelgeving moet zo worden opgesteld dat huidige rokers worden aangemoedigd om over te stappen. De EU moet zich richten op praktische oplossingen om de schade te beperken, en dit belangrijke punt ontbreekt in de SCHEER-analyse. Vapen kan rokers helpen om te stoppen met roken, maar dit rapport negeert dat en vergelijkt vapen met niet-roken.
