{"id":7116,"date":"2026-08-31T08:15:03","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T12:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/?p=7116"},"modified":"2026-08-31T08:15:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T12:15:03","slug":"the-us-is-moving-fast-on-pouches-the-eu-should-follow-its-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/nl_be\/the-us-is-moving-fast-on-pouches-the-eu-should-follow-its-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"De VS boeken snel vooruitgang met zakjes, de EU zou hun voorbeeld moeten volgen."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afgelopen week nog heeft de Amerikaanse Food and Drug Administration (FDA) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/tobacco-products\/ctp-newsroom\/fda-authorizes-11-new-nicotine-pouches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">geautoriseerd<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Elf nieuwe nicotinezakjes komen op de Amerikaanse markt, nadat ze de premarket tobacco product application (PMTA)-procedure van het agentschap hebben doorlopen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daarmee komt het totale aantal door de FDA goedgekeurde nicotinezakjes op <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/tobacco-products\/market-and-distribute-tobacco-product\/nicotine-pouch-products-authorized-fda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">43<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, waarvan er 15 alleen al in augustus zijn goedgekeurd en 21 in het afgelopen jaar. 23 van de 43, inclusief deze laatste lichting, hebben een pilotprogramma doorlopen dat de FDA speciaal heeft opgezet om de beoordeling van markttoelatingsaanvragen voor pouches te versnellen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terwijl Washington DC snellere routes aanlegt om nicotineproducten met een lager risico bij volwassen rokers te krijgen, blijft Brussel volhouden dat ze net zo schadelijk zijn als roken en dat ze beperkt, zo niet verboden, moeten worden.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Een programma dat resultaten oplevert<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De FDA <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/tobacco-products\/ctp-newsroom\/fda-launches-program-more-efficiently-review-nicotine-pouch-applications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">proefproject met nicotinezakjes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Het doet precies wat de naam suggereert. Volgens het agentschap heeft het geleid tot een snellere oplossing van wetenschappelijke vraagstukken, een kortere reactietijd voor aanvragers op brieven en over het algemeen effici\u00ebntere beoordelingen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De FDA integreert dit nu in haar bredere PMTA-procedure. Maar dit is geen goedkeuring zonder meer; de FDA vereist nog steeds bewijs dat een product meer voordelen voor de volksgezondheid oplevert dan risico&#039;s. Voor deze partij zakjes werden lagere concentraties schadelijke en potentieel schadelijke bestanddelen aangetroffen dan in andere rookloze tabaksproducten, in sommige gevallen zelfs zo laag dat ze niet eens te kwantificeren zijn!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het punt is hier dat nauwkeurigheid en effici\u00ebntie elkaar niet uitsluiten, zoals Bret Koplow, waarnemend directeur van het FDA Center for Tobacco Products, opmerkte. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/tobacco-products\/ctp-newsroom\/fda-authorizes-6-nicotine-pouch-products-completing-review-record-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">verklaarde<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Nadat vorig jaar al 6 andere nicotinezakjes waren goedgekeurd, heeft het agentschap een manier gevonden om de lat hoog te houden en tegelijkertijd de doorlooptijd te verkorten. Elke dag die daarmee wordt bespaard, betekent dat een volwassen roker een dag eerder kan overstappen op een minder schadelijk alternatief.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Europa kan het niet eens worden over buideltjes.<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De EU beschikt al over het beste bewijs ter wereld dat nicotinezakjes werken, en dat bewijs bevindt zich binnen haar eigen grenzen. Zweden heeft de grens overschreden.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/smokefreesweden.org\/2026\/04\/07\/sensational-new-data-shows-sweden-already-smoke-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> onder de 5% dagelijks roken<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Daarmee werd het het eerste land dat de rookvrije drempel van de WHO haalde, 15 jaar eerder dan de eigen doelstelling van de EU voor 2040.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Die verschuiving volgt op een toename van het gebruik van nicotinepouches, en de uitkomst is duidelijk: Zweedse mannen hebben een longkankersterftecijfer dat 61% lager ligt dan het EU-gemiddelde, en het totale aantal kankersterfgevallen ligt er 34% lager. Dit is precies het mechanisme dat de FDA aanhaalde toen ze de pouches goedkeurde: een product met een lager risico dat rokers van sigaretten afhoudt. De Europese Commissie zelf heeft echter haar eigen bevindingen herzien. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.ec.europa.eu\/tobacco\/evaluation-legislative-framework-tobacco-control_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">evaluatie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In de tabakswetgeving wordt Zweden vooral genoemd als waarschuwing tegen het gebruik van nicotinezakjes, en niet als de casus die het in werkelijkheid is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De terughoudendheid om te leren van het enige EU-land dat het probleem heeft opgelost, is terug te zien in de lappendeken van de rest van het blok. Frankrijk heeft de verkoop, import, het bezit en het gebruik van orale nicotineproducten per 1 april verboden, een van de strengste regelingen in Europa. Belgi\u00eb heeft de productie en de marketing ervan sinds 2022 volledig verboden. Duitsland beschouwt nicotinezakjes als nieuwe voedingsmiddelen, wat resulteert in een lappendeken van regionale verboden in plaats van \u00e9\u00e9n nationale regel. Veel andere EU-lidstaten hebben nog geen wetgeving over nicotinezakjes. Naar verwachting zal de Europese Commissie tegen het einde van het jaar een herziene tabaksproductenrichtlijn voorstellen die de regels mogelijk eindelijk zal harmoniseren.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Weten EU-bureaucraten het beter dan de FDA?<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Die onwil heeft een naam: gezondheidscommissaris Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi. In september 2025 V\u00e1rhelyi <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/en\/post\/exclusive-varheyli-tweets-then-deletes-false-claim-that-nicotine-causes-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">getweet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dat \u201cnicotine\u2026kanker veroorzaakt.\u201d In een<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/en_gb\/commissioner-varhelyi-denies-science-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">schriftelijk antwoord aan Europarlementari\u00ebr Kristoffer Storm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, V\u00e1rhelyi verklaarde dat rookloze nicotineproducten &quot;het gezondheidsrisico niet verlagen&quot; in vergelijking met sigaretten. Toen de Commissie bewijs nodig had om zijn standpunt te staven dat nieuwe nicotineproducten risico&#039;s met zich meebrengen die &quot;vergelijkbaar zijn met roken&quot;, weigerde de Commissie dit.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/en\/post\/factually-wrong-experts-destroy-study-used-by-eu-commission-to-justify-nicotine-clampdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het rapport sprak zichzelf tegen in de geciteerde bronnen.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, waaruit bleek dat nicotineproducten zonder verbranding een laag risico met zich meebrengen in vergelijking met het roken van sigaretten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/en\/post\/a-third-of-meps-say-novel-nicotine-products-are-as-harmful-as-smoking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enqu\u00eate onder Europarlementari\u00ebrs in 2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Uit onderzoek bleek dat het percentage mensen dat nieuwe nicotineproducten minstens even schadelijk vindt als roken, in een jaar tijd is gestegen van 191.400 naar 331.400. Dit is belangrijk, omdat diezelfde Europarlementari\u00ebrs zullen stemmen over het volgende EU-kader voor tabaksbestrijding, dat is opgesteld door V\u00e1rhelyi&#039;s eigen departement, DG SANTE, voordat het het Parlement en de Raad bereikt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De toekomst van een product dat veel veiliger is dan sigaretten, moet worden bepaald door de wetenschap, niet door ideologie.
