BRUSSEL \u2013 Aanstaande zondag viert de WHO haar jubileum. Wereld Anti-Tabaksdag<\/a> door te eisen dat er strengere regels komen voor e-sigaretten en nicotinezakjes. Zaterdag markeert de wereld de Wereld Vapedag<\/a> door erop te wijzen hoeveel levens die aanpak kost.<\/p>\n

\u201cDe WHO geeft de wereld les over nicotineverslaving, terwijl er jaarlijks 8 miljoen mensen sterven aan de gevolgen van roken. Elk land dat het roken snel heeft teruggedrongen, heeft dat gedaan door minder schadelijke alternatieven te omarmen. Het antwoord van de WHO is om die alternatieven te beperken. Na decennia van die aanpak roken er nog steeds 1,2 miljard mensen.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wereld Vape Dag 2026 heeft als thema... E\u00e9n schakelaar \u2013 iedereen wint<\/em>. Wanneer een roker overstapt op roken, verandert niet alleen zijn of haar eigen gezondheid. Passief roken verhoogt het risico op astma, longontsteking en bronchitis bij kinderen. Roken tijdens de zwangerschap leidt tot een laag geboortegewicht, vroeggeboorte en doodgeboorte. Kinderen van rokende ouders hebben tot wel vier keer meer kans om zelf ook regelmatig te gaan roken. Met \u00e9\u00e9n schakelaar is vrijwel al dat gedoe uit huis verwijderd.<\/a>.<\/p>\n

De wetenschap<\/a> Dat is duidelijk. Vapen, nicotinezakjes en heat-not-burn-producten verminderen de blootstelling aan de chemicali\u00ebn die rokers doden aanzienlijk. Nicotine is verslavend, maar het is niet de oorzaak van aan roken gerelateerde ziekten. Het echte gevaar schuilt in de verbranding. Verwijder de rook en het risicoprofiel verandert drastisch.<\/p>\n

Consumenten weten dit. Deze week zijn vapers en voorstanders van schadebeperking in Argentini\u00eb, Duitsland en Zuid-Afrika de straat op gegaan om te eisen dat er verstandig beleid komt dat rokers echte alternatieven biedt in plaats van hen terug te drijven naar sigaretten.<\/p>\n

De WHO-campagne 'WNTD 2026' noemt e-sigaretten en nicotinezakjes tactieken van de industrie om een nieuwe generatie verslaafd te maken. Zweden, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Nieuw-Zeeland, Tsjechi\u00eb en Griekenland, de landen die het roken sneller terugdrongen dan waar ook ter wereld, beschouwen ze als instrumenten voor de volksgezondheid.<\/p>\n
