Neem bijvoorbeeld de nieuwste paniekzaaierij: een hartverscheurend verhaal over een &quot;huiveringwekkend nieuw geval&quot; waarbij een Amerikaanse tiener, na drie jaar stiekem vapen, zogenaamd bronchiolitis obliterans ontwikkelde, ook wel bekend als &quot;popcornlong&quot;.\u201c\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het bericht schetst een dystopisch beeld: dampwolken met snoepsmaak die jonge longen veranderen in littekens en piepende ademhaling, allemaal dankzij diacetyl en andere &quot;niet-geteste&quot; chemicali\u00ebn. Het wordt gepresenteerd als een pleidooi voor &quot;strengere regelgeving&quot;, maar laten we het beestje bij de naam noemen: angstzaaierij bedoeld om vapen gelijk te stellen aan onomkeerbare ondergang.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Er is nog nooit \u2013 niet \u00e9\u00e9n keer in 18 jaar massale verkoop van e-sigaretten \u2013 een bevestigd geval van popcornlong geweest, veroorzaakt door een gereguleerde nicotine-e-sigaret. Nul. Geen. Het verhaal over de &quot;Amerikaanse tiener&quot; uit 2025 dat nu de ronde doet? Geen biopsie, geen wetenschappelijk artikel, geen bevestiging vanuit het ziekenhuis \u2013 alleen een bericht van een moeder op sociale media dat journalisten zonder controle hebben gekopieerd. Het is hetzelfde trucje als in 2019, toen krantenkoppen schreeuwden: &quot;Vapen veroorzaakt popcorn-EVALI&quot;... totdat de CDC het bevestigde. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7032996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">toegegeven<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Het was vitamine E-acetaat in de THC-cartridges die op de zwarte markt werden verkocht, geen vloeibare nicotine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Popcornlong bestaat echt, maar het wordt veroorzaakt door het inademen van diacetyl op industri\u00eble schaal \u2013 de ziekte die bekend is van magnetronpopcornfabrieken. Sigarettenrook bevat 130 tot 750 keer meer diacetyl dan de meest schadelijke e-sigaret die ooit is gemeten, en toch hebben we in een eeuw roken nog nooit een popcornlongepidemie onder rokers gezien. Als sigaretten het niet veroorzaken, dan doet vapen het zeker niet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diacetyl is jaren geleden uitgefaseerd of verboden in e-liquids. De bewering over &quot;180 niet-geteste smaakstoffen&quot; is pure bangmakerij \u2013 diezelfde stoffen zitten in ijs en snoep die je dagelijks eet. De dosis en de toedieningswijze bepalen of het giftig is, en de dosis in legale e-sigaretaerosol is vele malen lager dan wat longschade zou kunnen veroorzaken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ondertussen is er het wetenschappelijke bewijs van instanties die geen financieel belang hebben bij het bang maken van u:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uit een onderzoek van de Britse overheid uit 2022 (dat in 2025 nog steeds als wereldwijde maatstaf geldt): nicotine-e-sigaretten zijn minstens 95% minder schadelijk dan roken.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Koninklijk College van Artsen: &quot;E-sigaretten vormen een grote vooruitgang in de vermindering van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabak.&quot;\u201c<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cancer Research UK, de NHS, Health Canada en de Cleveland Clinic zeggen allemaal hetzelfde: er is geen bewijs dat vapen popcornlong veroorzaakt.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verboden op bepaalde smaakstoffen beschermen kinderen niet \u2013 ze drijven volwassen ex-rokers juist terug naar het product dat jaarlijks 8 miljoen mensen het leven kost. Dat is het echte schandaal voor de volksgezondheid dat door deze virale zieligheidsverhalen mogelijk wordt gemaakt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dus, de volgende keer dat iemand dat bericht deelt over &quot;zoete dampwolken die jonge longen voorgoed verwoesten&quot;, onthoud dan: het is geen voorlichting. Het is propaganda vermomd als bezorgdheid. En elke keer dat het zich onweerlegd verspreidt, besluit een andere roker dat vapen &quot;net zo slecht&quot; is en steekt hij of zij een sigaret op in plaats van over te stappen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><i>Laat herhaalde leugens geen mensenlevens eisen.
