14 november 2025, Brussel \u2013 Verschillende EU-lidstaten hebben zich verzet tegen extreme maatregelen tegen e-sigaretten en nicotine, wat heeft geleid tot een opmerkelijke verschuiving in het offici\u00eble standpunt van de EU in aanloop naar de aanstaande bijeenkomst van het WHO-Raamverdrag inzake tabaksbestrijding (COP11) in Gen\u00e8ve. Dit werd onthuld door \u201cDe lucht klaren<\/a>,De EU-lidstaten kwamen overeen om tijdens COP11 geen verboden te steunen.<\/p>\n

Dat betekent dat de EU nu geen COP-resoluties meer kan steunen die bepalingen bevatten die productverboden toestaan.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance (WVA), zei:<\/p>\n

\u201cDeze koerswijziging van de EU is een belangrijke overwinning voor het gezond verstand. Het is een duidelijke afwijzing van ongegronde verboden die als gezondheidsbeleid worden gepresenteerd. <\/em>Consumenten en verstandige overheden hebben zich hiertegen verzet en ervoor gezorgd dat de regelgeving de realiteit weerspiegelt in plaats van ideologie. Dit is een cruciale stap om de toegang tot minder schadelijke nicotineproducten, waar miljoenen mensen van afhankelijk zijn, te behouden.<\/em><\/strong> Hoewel het ergste is afgewend, gaat het uiteindelijke standpunt nog steeds niet ver genoeg om de keuzevrijheid van de consument te beschermen en schadebeperking te stimuleren.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Niettemin is het groeiende verzet binnen de EU tegen het standpunt van de Commissie ten aanzien van schadebeperking bemoedigend. Lidstaten moeten deze op bewijs gebaseerde aanpak handhaven tijdens toekomstige regelgevingsbesprekingen, waaronder het EU-plan voor cardiovasculaire gezondheid en herzieningen van de richtlijnen inzake tabaksaccijnzen en tabaksproducten.<\/p>\n

Hoewel hardliners binnen de Commissie, de WHO en door Bloomberg gefinancierde groeperingen een ideologie blijven propageren die de wetenschap negeert, laat deze verschuiving in het EU-standpunt voor COP11 zien dat hun invloed niet absoluut is. Lidstaten die bewijs boven ideologie stellen, moeten zich verzetten tegen beleid dat miljoenen rokers de toegang tot minder schadelijke producten ontzegt die hun leven zouden kunnen redden.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
