Bernhard Mayer, wetenschappelijk adviseur van de World Vapers&#039; Alliance (WVA), en dr. Colin Mendelsohn, een Australische expert op het gebied van volksgezondheid. Zij benadrukten dat de huidige anti-vaping-aanpak van de WHO zal leiden tot meer doden en leed door roken. &quot;Honderd experts hebben gesproken en consumenten zijn het erover eens dat vapen en andere methoden om de schade van tabak te beperken, voorop moeten staan bij het redden van levens. De WHO negeert dit feit voorlopig, maar we vragen hen te luisteren. 200 miljoen levens hangen ervan af. Het is tijd om een einde te maken aan de oorlog tegen vapen&quot;, aldus WVA-directeur Michael Landl.<\/p>\n<p>In een persbericht benadrukte de WVA de noodzaak voor de WHO om haar ineffectieve methodologie te erkennen en overleg te plegen met wetenschappers en consumenten om miljoenen levens te redden. &quot;Hieronder presenteren we onze drie belangrijkste verzoeken aan de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie in aanloop naar hun tabaksbestrijdingsconferentie COP9 in november:<\/p>\n<p>WAT CONSUMENTEN VAN DE WHO VERWACHTEN:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">\n<li>DE ERKENNING EN INTEGRATIE VAN METHODEN VOOR HET VERMINDEREN VAN DE SCHADE DOOR TABAKSGEBRUIK<\/li>\n<li>HET RECHT OP TOEGANG EN BETAALBAARHEID VOOR CONSUMENTEN<\/li>\n<li>DE EFFECTIEVE DEELNAME VAN CONSUMENTEN AAN DISCUSSIES OP COP9\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Landen die de richtlijnen van de WHO volgen, blijven worstelen met hogere rookcijfers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In lijn met deze argumenten heeft een recent witboek van 59 pagina&#039;s, waarin casestudies uit verschillende landen over de voortgang bij het stoppen met roken worden besproken, aangetoond dat degenen die de richtlijnen van de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie volgen, nog steeds kampen met hogere rookpercentages.<\/p>\n<p>De publicatie, getiteld &quot;Vaping Works. International Best Practices: United Kingdom, New Zealand, France and Canada&quot;, werd uitgegeven door de Property Rights Alliance. Het bevatte vier casestudies van respectievelijk Christopher Snowdon (Institute of Economic Affairs, VK), Louis Houlbrooke (New Zealand Taxpayers&#039; Union, Nieuw-Zeeland), Patrick Coquart (IREF, Frankrijk) en prof. Ian Irvine (Concordia University, Canada), en bevestigde wat experts op het gebied van volksgezondheid al langer stellen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&quot;Landen die een progressief beleid voeren ter vermindering van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabaksgebruik, zien een aanzienlijke daling van het aantal rokers.
