Bij gebrek aan een concreet plan om de tabaksregelgeving dit jaar te herzien, komt de Europese Commissie onder druk te staan om haar verouderde tabaksaccijnsrichtlijn (TED) aan te passen.<\/p>\n

Individuele lidstaten en lobbygroepen roepen de EU op om de wetgeving inzake minimumtabaksaccijns en nieuwe en alternatieve producten te actualiseren.<\/p>\n

Naar aanleiding van het initiatief van de Nederlandse overheid voor een voorstel tot strengere regelgeving, heeft de World Vapers' Alliance een open brief gestuurd naar de Commissie en de EU-landen.<\/p>\n

Er staat dat de door Nederland geleide maatregel "jarenlange vooruitgang in het helpen van rokers om te stoppen met roken door middel van veiligere alternatieven zoals vapen en nicotinezakjes dreigt te ondermijnen".<\/p>\n

De open brief, waarin beleidsmakers ervan worden beschuldigd "wetenschappelijk advies en de publieke opinie te negeren ten gunste van misleidende, verbodsgerichte benaderingen", is door meer dan 100.000 mensen in heel Europa ondertekend.<\/p>\n
