Het rapport schetst zes belangrijke redenen waarom de &quot;oorlog tegen nicotine zinloos is&quot; en moet eindigen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&quot;In plaats van de dalende aantallen rokers en de veel lagere sterfgevallen te vieren, zijn veel regeringen, volksgezondheidsinstanties en antirookactivisten op zoek gegaan naar nieuwe vijanden&quot;, schreven de onderzoekers. &quot;Ze besloten nicotine tot zondebok te maken, waardoor de strijd tegen roken geleidelijk aan veranderde in een strijd tegen nicotine. Zo&#039;n aanpak heeft ernstige gevolgen: minder mensen stappen over op minder schadelijke alternatieven.&quot;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Het artikel is mede geschreven door Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers&#039; Alliance, en Maria Chaplia, onderzoeksmanager bij het Consumer Choice Center. De zes redenen die in het artikel worden genoemd om de oorlog tegen nicotine te stoppen, zijn:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom:12px;\">\n<li>Mensen consumeren nicotine, maar ze sterven aan de gevolgen van roken.<\/li>\n<li>Nicotine in pleisters en kauwgom is geen probleem, en dat geldt ook niet voor e-sigaretten of nicotine in een zakje.<\/li>\n<li>Verslaving is complex en wordt niet opgelost door een oorlog tegen nicotine.<\/li>\n<li>Nicotine maakt sommige mensen slimmer, sterker en aantrekkelijker.<\/li>\n<li>Misvattingen over nicotine belemmeren de vooruitgang.<\/li>\n<li>Verbod werkt nooit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cPlaats praktische oplossingen voorop: om het aantal rokers terug te dringen, moet de volksgezondheid alle beschikbare mogelijkheden benutten. Mensen die niet kunnen stoppen met roken, moeten worden aangemoedigd om over te stappen op minder schadelijke alternatieven. Nicotine is niet het grootste probleem bij roken, de giftige stoffen wel\u201d, adviseren de onderzoekers beleidsmakers. \u201cRegelgeving moet worden opgesteld op basis van het werkelijke risico van een product. Vapen of snus zijn minder schadelijk dan roken en moeten daarom anders worden behandeld. Nicotine wordt geen gif wanneer het via een e-sigaret wordt ingenomen. Als nicotine geen probleem is in kauwgom en pleisters, kan het ook geen groter probleem zijn in e-sigaretten. De morele paniek rondom nicotine moet stoppen.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVerslaving is complex en wordt niet opgelost met een oorlog tegen nicotine. Als het om verslaving gaat, mag het volksgezondheidsbeleid zich niet richten op \u00e9\u00e9n enkele stof. De potenti\u00eble voordelen van nicotine moeten onbevooroordeeld worden onderzocht.\u201d<br \/>\nWetenschappelijk onderzoek moet worden gewaarborgd. Het overheidsbeleid moet erkennen dat veel mensen nicotine recreatief gebruiken. Een oorlog tegen nicotine zal mislukken, net zoals de oorlog tegen drugs of het alcoholverbod mislukte. Misvattingen over nicotine moeten worden bestreden.
