Nu Zweden zijn doel nadert om het eerste rookvrije land te worden, dreigen discussies over EU-verboden op smaakstoffen, beperkingen op nicotinezakjes, verboden op vapen in de openlucht en verhoogde belastingen deze belangrijke vooruitgang op het gebied van de volksgezondheid te ondermijnen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Landl, directeur van de WVA, zei:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><b><i>De misplaatste kruistocht van de EU tegen vapen en schadebeperking is een ramp voor de volksgezondheid in wording.<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Verboden op smaakstoffen, beperkingen op vapen in de buitenlucht en hogere belastingen zullen mensen alleen maar terugdrijven naar sigaretten. De EU moet dringend overstappen op op bewijs gebaseerd beleid dat daadwerkelijk levens redt en consumenten in staat stelt definitief te stoppen met roken. De stemmen van 100.000 consumenten die deze verandering eisen, mogen niet worden genegeerd. We roepen de Europarlementari\u00ebrs op om naar hun kiezers te luisteren en beleid te omarmen dat werkt.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De open aanpak van Zweden heeft geleid tot een rookpercentage van iets meer dan 51%, terwijl de EU op schema ligt om haar rookvrije doelstelling in 2100 te halen \u2013 een verbazingwekkende vertraging van 60 jaar.
