De World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) heeft de EU-ministers van Volksgezondheid opgeroepen om onmiddellijk wetenschappelijk onderbouwde strategie\u00ebn voor het verminderen van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabak te implementeren, gezien de vertragingen bij de tabakswetgeving. Deze oproep kwam tijdens een tweedaagse bijeenkomst van de ministers van Volksgezondheid in Brussel.\u00a0EPSCO-vergadering<\/a>\u00a0waarbij het Europese plan ter bestrijding van kanker een van de belangrijkste gespreksonderwerpen was.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

Na afloop van de vergadering hebben de leden van de Raad voor Werkgelegenheid, Sociaal Beleid, Gezondheid en Consumentenzaken (EPSCO) de agenda voor de vergadering van mei, die deze week plaatsvindt, vastgesteld. Opnieuw hebben ze geweigerd een platform te bieden voor een op bewijs gebaseerde discussie over het verminderen van de schadelijke gevolgen van vapen en tabak.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de WVA, bekritiseerde het huidige beleid en verklaarde:\u00a0\u201cDe Europese Commissie negeert de wetenschappelijke inzichten over tabaksbeleid. Het is overduidelijk dat veiligere nicotinealternatieven zoals vapen of e-sigarettenzakjes aanzienlijk minder schadelijk zijn dan roken en effectief bijdragen aan het stoppen met roken. De ministers van Volksgezondheid van de EU hebben een cruciale kans om te pleiten voor verstandige regelgeving die jaarlijks 700.000 onnodige sterfgevallen als gevolg van roken zou kunnen voorkomen. Het 'Beating Cancer Plan' erkent dat vapen rokers kan helpen stoppen. Politici moeten hiernaar handelen.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
