Brussel, BE, 23 april 2024<\/strong> De World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) roept de EU-ministers van Volksgezondheid op om onmiddellijk actie te ondernemen en wetenschappelijk onderbouwde strategie\u00ebn voor het verminderen van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabak te implementeren, gezien de vertragingen in de tabakswetgeving. Deze oproep komt op het moment dat de ministers van Volksgezondheid in Brussel bijeenkomen voor een tweedaagse bijeenkomst. EPSCO-vergadering<\/a> waarbij het Europese plan ter bestrijding van kanker een van de belangrijkste gespreksonderwerpen is.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de WVA, bekritiseert het huidige beleid., <\/strong>stellende, \u201cDe Europese Commissie negeert de wetenschappelijke inzichten over tabaksbeleid. Het is overduidelijk dat veiligere nicotinealternatieven zoals vapen of e-sigarettenzakjes aanzienlijk minder schadelijk zijn dan roken en effectief bijdragen aan het stoppen met roken. De ministers van Volksgezondheid van de EU hebben deze week een cruciale kans om te pleiten voor verstandige regelgeving die jaarlijks 700.000 onnodige sterfgevallen als gevolg van roken kan voorkomen. Het 'Beating Cancer Plan' erkent dat vapen rokers kan helpen stoppen. Politici moeten hiernaar handelen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Landl benadrukte dat de bijeenkomst een potentieel keerpunt zou kunnen betekenen., \u201cDeze bijeenkomst zou het begin moeten markeren van een streven van de EU naar een rookvrije toekomst. Ministers van Volksgezondheid zouden zich moeten laten inspireren door Zweden, dat op weg is om het eerste rookvrije land ter wereld te worden, grotendeels dankzij de invoering van veiligere en minder schadelijke alternatieven.
