Londen, VK \u2013 Gisteren stemden parlementsleden in met de tweede lezing van het wetsvoorstel inzake tabak en e-sigaretten, dat de verkoop van tabak aan personen van 15 jaar en jonger verbiedt. WVA waarschuwt de parlementsleden hun stem te heroverwegen, aangezien het wetsvoorstel de volgende fase in het parlement ingaat.<\/p>\n

Het wetsvoorstel houdt in dat iedereen die na 2009 is geboren geen sigaretten of tabaksproducten die verhit worden in plaats van verbrand te kunnen kopen. Het parlement stemde ook in met mogelijke beperkingen op onder meer de smaken en verpakkingen van e-sigaretten.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoewel de intentie om de groeiende rookepidemie onder de bevolking te bestrijden prijzenswaardig is, baart het aanvullende verbod op verhitte tabaksproducten (Heat-not-burn-tabaksproducten) zorgen. Deze producten zijn aantoonbaar veel minder schadelijk en hebben, samen met gearomatiseerde e-sigaretten en andere nicotineproducten zoals pouches, miljoenen rokers geholpen te stoppen. Het wetsvoorstel schept een gevaarlijk precedent van ongelijke wetgeving voor verschillende bevolkingsgroepen en dreigt te worden toegepast op andere, minder schadelijke producten die cruciaal zijn geweest in de strijd tegen roken.\u201d<\/em> aldus Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe roepen de parlementsleden die voor het wetsvoorstel hebben gestemd op om hun stem te heroverwegen. Het goedkeuren van een dergelijk wetsvoorstel brengt veel onbedoelde gevolgen met zich mee, zoals de uitbreiding van de zwarte markt voor sigaretten of gearomatiseerde e-sigaretten en het stimuleren van roken onder jongeren.<\/em>,", voegde Landl eraan toe.<\/p>\n

\u201cEr zijn enkele voorbeelden waarbij wetgevers hebben geprobeerd generatieverboden in te voeren, maar daarin niet zijn geslaagd, zoals: Bhutan<\/a> waarbij het generatieverbod leidde tot een enorme groei van de zwarte markt en uiteindelijk moest worden teruggedraaid.
