Een opvallend resultaat is dat er een grote consensus bestaat tussen burgers, ngo&#039;s en wetenschappelijke instellingen. <strong>77% van de respondenten erkennen deze producten als nuttig bij het roken.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>hulpmiddelen voor stoppen met roken,<\/strong> terwijl slechts 9% EU-burgers het daar niet mee eens zijn. Bovendien is een overweldigende meerderheid het daar niet mee eens. <strong>82% van de respondenten weerlegt de stelling dat nieuwe nicotinealternatieven een risico vormen voor de volksgezondheid.,<\/strong> waarbij slechts 6% ze als een bedreiging beschouwen.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers&#039; Alliance, verklaart:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cHet huidige standpunt van de Europese Commissie over schadebeperking is niet alleen wereldvreemd; het is een flagrante minachting voor de mening van consumenten en wetenschappelijk bewijs. Het is hoog tijd dat de Commissie de realiteit onder ogen ziet dat schadebeperkende producten niet de vijand zijn, maar een essenti\u00eble bondgenoot in de strijd tegen roken.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Landen zoals Zweden bewijzen het succes van een consumentvriendelijke aanpak gericht op schadebeperking, en lopen aanzienlijk voor op de EU wat betreft het terugdringen van het aantal rokers. De terughoudendheid van de Europese Commissie om deze aanpak te omarmen is niet alleen verbijsterend, maar ook schadelijk voor de volksgezondheid.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cHet succesverhaal van Zweden is een bewijs van wat er bereikt kan worden met een verstandig beleid ter beperking van de schade. Het is verbijsterend en ronduit onverantwoordelijk dat de Europese Commissie haar vijandige houding ten opzichte van deze levensreddende producten voortzet. De Commissie moet haar beleid afstemmen op de duidelijke feiten en de publieke opinie, in plaats van vast te houden aan verouderde en ineffectieve methoden.\u201d<\/em> Landl voegt hieraan toe:.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">De WVA dringt er bij de Europese Commissie op aan haar standpunt te herzien en een meer op bewijs gebaseerde aanpak te hanteren voor schadebeperking bij de aanstaande herziening van de Tabaksproductenrichtlijn (TPD). De recente bevindingen van de consultatie zouden als een waarschuwing moeten dienen en de noodzaak benadrukken van beleid dat werkelijk aansluit bij de behoeften van de volksgezondheid en de voorkeuren van EU-burgers.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">De World Vapers&#039; Alliance blijft zich inzetten voor verstandige maatregelen ter vermindering van de schadelijke gevolgen van e-sigaretten en voor de rechten van consumenten die kiezen voor minder schadelijke alternatieven voor roken.
