De Daily Mail meldt dat Schotland serieus overweegt een gefaseerd verbod in te voeren op zowel e-sigaretten als tabak voor kinderen tot en met 14 jaar. Consumentenorganisatie World Vapers' Alliance noemt dit zorgwekkend. De maatregel is een kopie van de voorstellen van de Britse regering, maar voegt daar e-sigaretten aan toe.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, uitte ernstige bedenkingen bij deze stap: \u201cHoewel de intentie om roken terug te dringen prijzenswaardig is, is het zorgwekkend dat de Schotse regering overweegt dit verbod uit te breiden naar vapen. Het is belangrijk om te onthouden dat het voor tieners al illegaal is om vapes te kopen. Het toevoegen van nog een verbodslaag lost de onderliggende problemen niet op. In plaats daarvan moeten we ons richten op het effectiever handhaven van de bestaande wetgeving en het aanpakken van de redenen waarom tieners \u00fcberhaupt beginnen met roken of vapen.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Het rapport van de Daily Mail suggereert dat iedereen die in 2009 of later is geboren \u2013 momenteel 14 jaar of jonger \u2013 nooit legaal tabak of e-sigaretten in Schotland zal kunnen kopen. Deze aanpak zou volgens Landl tot onbedoelde gevolgen kunnen leiden.<\/p>\n

Landl zei: \u201c"Zullen er smokkelbendes actief worden die vapes vanuit Engeland naar Schotland brengen? Hoe absurd dit ook klinkt, we hebben in het verleden gezien waartoe een verbod leidt. Verboden hebben een geschiedenis van mislukkingen, en dit is niet anders. Het verbieden van het meest succesvolle hulpmiddel om te stoppen met roken in de geschiedenis is weinig zinvol en contraproductief. We hebben soortgelijke pogingen in Australi\u00eb rampzalig zien mislukken, wat leidde tot een bloeiende zwarte markt.".<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n
