Brussel, 7 november 2023 \u2013<\/strong> Vandaag heeft de subcommissie Volksgezondheid van de EU (SANT) de potenti\u00eble rol van vapen bij het stoppen met roken onderschreven.<\/p>\n

Het Parlement rapport over niet-overdraagbare ziekten <\/a>Er wordt erkend dat vapen een manier is voor rokers om geleidelijk te stoppen. De aanbeveling van SANT om vapen in sommige openbare ruimtes te verbieden heeft echter tot discussie en bezorgdheid geleid.<\/p>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance, geeft een genuanceerde kijk op het rapport:<\/p>\n

\u201cDe erkenning door het Parlement dat vapen rokers kan helpen stoppen, is een stap in de goede richting. Gezien het goed gedocumenteerde succes van vapen als hulpmiddel bij het stoppen met roken, is het cruciaal dat de EU dit instrument volledig omarmt in haar strategie om rokersgerelateerde ziekten terug te dringen. Vapen biedt rokers niet alleen een uitweg, maar is ook essentieel voor het bereiken van doelstellingen op het gebied van de volksgezondheid.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Ondanks deze erkenning wordt het voorstel in het rapport om rookverboden uit te breiden naar vapen als problematisch beschouwd.<\/p>\n

\u201cHet gelijkstellen van vapen aan roken in openbare ruimtes geeft een verkeerd signaal aan rokers die willen stoppen. Er is geen bewijs voor schadelijke gevolgen van passief vapen. De subcommissie moet de bredere impact heroverwegen, inclusief het risico op terugval voor ex-rokers. Een meer doordachte, op gezond verstand gebaseerde regelgeving is essentieel om ervoor te zorgen dat vapen een haalbare optie blijft voor mensen die vastbesloten zijn te stoppen met roken.\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Landl waarschuwt.<\/p>\n
