Brussel, Belgi\u00eb \u2014<\/strong> Vandaag, 1 juni, hield de SANT (Subcommissie Volksgezondheid) een hoorzitting over &quot;Het voorkomen van niet-overdraagbare ziekten&quot; om mogelijke oplossingen te bespreken. Nicotinegebruik was een van de belangrijkste onderwerpen van de discussie. Hieruit blijkt dat er nog steeds veel misinformatie en diepgewortelde vooroordelen bestaan ten aanzien van schadebeperking onder EU-besluitvormers, aldus Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers&#039; Alliance, een organisatie die de stem van vapers wereldwijd vertegenwoordigt.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<em>Hoewel niet-overdraagbare ziekten, zoals hart- en vaatziekten, chronische longaandoeningen en kanker, de hoeksteen van de EU-agenda voor de volksgezondheid zouden moeten vormen, is het ook cruciaal om op bewijs en wetenschap gebaseerde benaderingen na te streven. We moeten de daadwerkelijke schade verminderen en niet zozeer het nicotinegebruik zelf bestrijden. De echte bedreiging voor de volksgezondheid komt van sigarettenroken. Alternatieve producten zoals snus, e-sigaretten en nicotinezakjes verminderen door roken veroorzaakte ziekten, omdat ze rokers effectief helpen te stoppen. Het bestrijden van nicotinegebruik in plaats van de daadwerkelijke schade zal veel schadelijkere gevolgen hebben.,<\/em>\u201d&quot; zei Michael Landl.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Onder de besproken misvattingen over de rol van schadebeperking vielen de opmerkingen van Europarlementari\u00ebrs Gonz\u00e1lez Casares en Trillet-Lenoir op. Europarlementari\u00ebr Gonz\u00e1lez Casares merkte op: \u201c<em>E\u00e9n ding weten we zeker: roken maakt alles erger en verhoogt de sterfte door hart- en vaatziekten. Wat we hier hoorden, was een verdediging van technieken of apparaten in een bredere context van tabaksgebruik. Nog niet zo lang geleden werd vapen in sommige staten verboden. Sommigen beweren dat het helpt om te stoppen met roken, maar als we het over preventie hebben, gaat het erom dat mensen niet roken of er in de eerste plaats niet aan beginnen, en dat risico zouden we niet moeten nemen.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">EP-lid V\u00e9ronique Trillet-Lenoir merkte op: \u201c<em>&quot;We zijn hier om de volksgezondheid op een serieuze, wetenschappelijk onderbouwde manier aan te pakken.&quot; Toch reageerde het Europarlementslid op het onderzoek naar de rol van nicotine en snus bij het stoppen met roken: &quot;Het is duidelijk dat dit schadelijke product wordt gepromoot, misschien niet zo kankerverwekkend als tabak, maar niettemin schadelijk.&quot;.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<em>Verschillende onderzoeken, uiteenlopende consumentenvoorkeuren en concrete voorbeelden uit de praktijk, zoals het behalen van de Zweedse doelstelling om 17 jaar eerder dan de EU-doelstelling rookvrij te worden, vormen sterk bewijs dat schadebeperking werkt en succesvol kan zijn in het voorkomen van niet-overdraagbare ziekten.<\/em>\u201d&quot; voegde Landl eraan toe.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Naar aanleiding van de discussie van vandaag dringt de World Vapers Alliance er bij de SANT-commissie op aan om de BECA-conclusie te onderzoeken en instrumenten voor schadebeperking te omarmen.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">De World Vapers&#039; Alliance heeft een uitgebreid informatieblad over schadebeperking gepubliceerd met een overzicht van wetenschappelijke studies over nicotinegebruik, de rol van smaakstoffen in e-sigaretten en de impact van belastingheffing op de volksgezondheid.
