De Europese Commissie (EC) heeft vandaag in haar "Wereldwijde gezondheidsstrategie" aangekondigd dat deze tot doel heeft "prioriteit te geven aan het aanpakken van de grondoorzaken van een slechte gezondheid", maar dat roken niet wordt aangepakt door methoden voor het verminderen van de schadelijke gevolgen van tabaksgebruik op te nemen.<\/h4>\n

Michael Landl, directeur van de World Vapers' Alliance (WVA), die onlangs zijn tweede Europese campagne<\/a> Om voorlichting te geven over de mogelijkheden van vapen bij het stoppen met roken, werd benadrukt dat de Europese Commissie helaas de wetenschappelijke inzichten over vapen negeert.<\/p>\n

\u201cDe Europese Commissie negeert opnieuw de wetenschap en de stem van de consument. Tabakschadebeperking moet een essentieel onderdeel worden van alle gezondheidsbeleid voor de EU<\/a>. Jaarlijks sterven zevenhonderdduizend mensen aan de gevolgen van roken, en tegelijkertijd verzet de Commissie zich tegen minder schadelijke alternatieven. De wetenschap is duidelijk: vapen is veel minder schadelijk dan roken en is een van de meest effectieve hulpmiddelen om te stoppen met roken. Consumenten eisen dat de Commissie deze realiteit eindelijk erkent.\u201d<\/p>\n

De World Vapers' Alliance heeft onlangs een verzoekschrift<\/a> Een door meer dan 4.000 EU-burgers ondertekend document, gericht aan de leden van het Europees Parlement, uitte hun bezorgdheid over de algemene negatieve houding ten opzichte van vapen. In het document werd de EU opgeroepen om tabakschadebeperking te omarmen en af te zien van strenge beperkingen die rokers ervan weerhouden over te stappen op de veiligere alternatieven.<\/p>\n
