{"id":3239,"date":"2022-10-17T06:53:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T10:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/?p=3239"},"modified":"2022-10-17T06:53:00","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T10:53:00","slug":"brian-king-misses-the-chance-to-engage-with-harm-reduction-advocates-at-gtnf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldvapersalliance.com\/nl_be\/brian-king-misses-the-chance-to-engage-with-harm-reduction-advocates-at-gtnf\/","title":{"rendered":"King mist de kans om in gesprek te gaan met voorstanders van schadebeperking bij GTNF."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Washington DC bruiste het vorige week van hoopvolle voorstanders, toezichthouders, functionarissen en investeerders uit de industrie, die bijeenkwamen om alles wat met nicotine te maken heeft te bespreken tijdens het Global Tobacco &amp; Nicotine Forum.<em>GTNF<\/em>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De belangrijkste focus voor veel aanwezigen lag op de presentatie van Brian A. King, directeur van het Center for Tobacco Products van de Amerikaanse FDA. De meeste aanwezige voorstanders verheugden zich erop King belangrijke vragen te kunnen stellen, vragen waarop ze al sinds zijn aantreden in juli wachtten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King begon met te zeggen dat hij zijn werk zeer serieus neemt als het gaat om het be\u00ebindigen van tabaksgerelateerde schade en sterfgevallen. Hij vervolgde door te zeggen dat ze als toezichthouder kijken naar het &quot;netto voordeel voor de volksgezondheid versus de risico&#039;s&quot;. Hij gaf echter geen enkele indicatie over hoe hij jongeren \u00e9n volwassenen zal beschermen, of over plannen voor een toekomstperspectief voor die volwassenen die geen toegang meer hebben tot de verboden producten waar ze van afhankelijk zijn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Op typische FDA-wijze had King het uitgebreid over gebruik door jongeren, en natuurlijk vergat hij niet zichzelf en het agentschap op de schouders te kloppen voor de snelheid waarmee deze 6,7 miljoen aanvragen waren verwerkt. King ging zelfs zo ver dat hij bijna opschepte over het aantal afwijzingen en de 23 producten die door het agentschap waren goedgekeurd. Hij vermeldde echter nergens dat de meeste van deze goedkeuringen betrekking hebben op producten die verouderd zijn, niet meer worden geproduceerd en zelden door volwassenen worden gebruikt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schokkend genoeg gaf hij wel toe dat e-sigaretten minder risico&#039;s met zich meebrengen dan traditionele sigaretten, maar hij lijkt geen plannen te hebben om de misinformatie van de FDA recht te zetten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helaas voor de voorstanders die geduldig wachtten op het vragenrondje van Kings presentatie, kwam hij tijd tekort en verliet hij halsoverkop het gebouw. Alsof dat nog niet erg genoeg was, sloot King zijn toespraak af met de mededeling dat hij weg moest omdat hij een afspraak had met &quot;een van onze favoriete senatoren&quot;.
