Geachte ministers van Volksgezondheid,<\/p>\n

Op 16 maart wisselt u van gedachten over het Europese plan ter bestrijding van kanker, dat door de Commissie is voorgesteld. Als minister van Volksgezondheid en fervent voorstander van gezondheidsbeleid draagt u een enorme verantwoordelijkheid jegens kankerpati\u00ebnten en Europese burgers in de hele unie. Daarom nemen we contact met u op v\u00f3\u00f3r de aanstaande bijeenkomst met de Europese Commissie.<\/p>\n

Wij zijn van mening dat dit plan onvoldoende rekening houdt met tabak en aan roken gerelateerde kankers. Het plan sluit de deur voor rokers die proberen te stoppen met behulp van nieuwe tabaksproducten, met name e-sigaretten, door onthouding boven schadebeperking te verkiezen.<\/p>\n

Het kankerplan van de commissie stelt voor om vapen op dezelfde manier te belasten als tabak, vapen in openbare ruimtes te verbieden en vapenproducten en -smaken gelijk te stellen aan tabak. Dit is een misleidend en gevaarlijk beleid.<\/p>\n

Onderzoek toont aan dat vapers twee keer zoveel kans hebben om definitief te stoppen met roken dan mensen die nicotinepleisters of -kauwgom gebruiken, en er is wetenschappelijk bewijs dat vapers worden blootgesteld aan 0,4% van het levenslange kankerrisico van rokers. Door deze apparaten te verbieden, negeert het kankerplan van de Commissie honderdduizenden vapers in heel Europa.<\/p>\n

Bij de World Vapers' Alliance weten we dat onze 13.000 vapers en 23 partnerorganisaties zich grote zorgen maken over de ontwikkeling van de wetgeving rondom e-sigaretten op Europees niveau. Als de huidige koers van de Commissie ten aanzien van e-sigaretten wordt gehandhaafd, zal dit leiden tot een toename van het aantal rokers en zal het alle vooruitgang die is geboekt op weg naar een kankervrije samenleving tenietdoen. Dit plan zou ook wereldwijd gevolgen hebben voor de regelgeving. Daarom dringen we er bij u op aan om de huidige versie van het plan van de Europese Commissie af te wijzen, omdat het catastrofale gevolgen zou hebben voor de volksgezondheid, zoals u in het onderstaande document kunt zien.<\/p>\n
