The Danish Government’s draft Act amending the Act on tobacco puts smoking cessation efforts
at risk by severely restricting less harmful nicotine products that are alternatives to traditional
cigarettes.

The Draft Royal Decree of the Ministry of Health which modifies the Royal Decree 579/2017, of June 9, which regulates certain aspects related to the manufacture, presentation and marketing of tobacco products and related products is intended to prohibit additives and components that confer aromas on tobacco and related products, among which are in the liquids of electronic cigarettes or vaping devices.

Australia
The Therapeutic Goods and Other Legislation Amendment (Vaping Reforms) Bill 2024 aims to prohibit the importation, domestic manufacture, supply, commercial possession and advertisement of non-therapeutic and disposable vaping goods.

Uzbekistan
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s draft bill on amendments and additions to certain legal acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding prohibition of circulation and liability for tobacco and nicotine devices, electronic cigarettes and tobacco heating systems, including certain types of tobacco products aims to ban the import, production, sale and use of vaping and heated tobacco products.

Scotland
Scottish government asked for comments from stakeholders and the general public on the draft Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (Scotland) Regulations 2024.

Brazil
The Brazilian Health Regulation Agency’s (ANVISA) draft proposal of a resolution on electronic smoking devices aims to tighten the trade ban that has been in place in the country since 2009 and prohibit the use and possession of vaping products.

The UK Government reviewed policies on vaping and tobacco products, which could jeopardise the nation’s significant progress in harm reduction.

Latvia
The amendment proposal to the Law on the circulation of tobacco products, herbal smoking products, electronic smoking devices and their liquids bans non-tobacco vaping flavours and establishes heavy restrictions on nicotine pouches, a safer nicotine product used as an alternative to traditional cigarettes by many smokers looking to quit.

The Department of Health and Education in Israel issued an invitation for public responses to their newly released Action Plan titled “Coping with the Damage of Electronic Cigarettes.”

The United Kingdom announced a plan to mandate information sheets for smokers on how to quit inserted into cigarette packs. The WVA welcomes this plan but urges the government to also include information about less harmful alternatives for smokers who are not able to quit. The Slovenian Ministry of Health proposed to introduce a ban on all vaping flavourings except tobacco “to prevent and reduce the use of electronic cigarettes among young people”.
