Cependant, le vapotage peut faire partie de la solution et sauver de nombreuses vies, affirme Bernd Mayer, professeur de pharmacologie et de toxicologie \u00e0 l&#039;universit\u00e9 de Graz en Autriche.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Le vapotage est un sujet br\u00fblant en Europe actuellement, notamment avec le lancement prochain du Plan europ\u00e9en de lutte contre le cancer. D\u00e8s lors, quelle position l&#039;UE devrait-elle adopter face au vapotage\u00a0?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Il est essentiel de comprendre que vapoter n&#039;est pas fumer. Les assimiler serait une erreur. Il est scientifiquement prouv\u00e9 que vapoter est moins nocif que fumer. Face aux 700\u00a0000 d\u00e9c\u00e8s annuels dus aux maladies li\u00e9es au tabagisme, et compte tenu de l&#039;existence d&#039;une alternative que Public Health England juge au moins 95 % moins nocive, l&#039;UE doit soutenir le vapotage comme m\u00e9thode de r\u00e9duction des risques pour les fumeurs.<\/p>\n<p>Contrairement aux cigarettes traditionnelles, les cigarettes \u00e9lectroniques n&#039;\u00e9mettent pas de fum\u00e9e et r\u00e9duisent consid\u00e9rablement l&#039;\u00e9mission de produits de combustion toxiques. De ce fait, le risque de cancer au cours de la vie est des centaines, voire des milliers de fois inf\u00e9rieur pour les vapoteurs par rapport aux fumeurs. Des \u00e9tudes montrent \u00e9galement que les fonctions cardiovasculaires et pulmonaires des fumeurs qui passent \u00e0 la cigarette \u00e9lectronique s&#039;am\u00e9liorent nettement. Par cons\u00e9quent, le vapotage n&#039;est pas associ\u00e9 \u00e0 un risque grave pour la sant\u00e9 et repr\u00e9sente un avantage pour la sant\u00e9 publique lorsque les fumeurs optent pour la cigarette \u00e9lectronique.<\/p>\n<p><em>Malgr\u00e9 toutes ces preuves, certains rapports restent sceptiques quant au vapotage, comme le r\u00e9cent rapport SCHEER de la Commission europ\u00e9enne.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Le rapport SCHEER est loin d&#039;\u00eatre une \u00e9tude objective. Bien que l&#039;\u00e9valuation des risques relatifs soit essentielle \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction des risques, le rapport a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 exclure toute comparaison entre le vapotage et le tabagisme. Cette exigence a abouti \u00e0 un document inutile, de faible valeur scientifique, qui ignore totalement (volontairement ou non) le concept de r\u00e9duction des risques. Malheureusement, certains d\u00e9cideurs politiques instrumentalisent ce rapport pour justifier une r\u00e9glementation excessivement s\u00e9v\u00e8re du vapotage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, les efforts justifi\u00e9s de la sant\u00e9 publique pour r\u00e9duire le tabagisme se sont transform\u00e9s en une guerre injustifi\u00e9e contre la nicotine. \u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Pourtant, malgr\u00e9 de nombreuses recherches, le vapotage reste tr\u00e8s controvers\u00e9 dans de nombreux pays. Pourquoi ?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Il existe en effet de graves malentendus au sein du grand public concernant le vapotage et ses diff\u00e9rences fondamentales avec le tabagisme. Ces id\u00e9es fausses sont multiples, mais la perception erron\u00e9e de la nicotine en est sans aucun doute un exemple particuli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9occupant et pertinent. En 1976, le professeur Michael Russell, pionnier dans l&#039;\u00e9tude de la d\u00e9pendance au tabac et le d\u00e9veloppement d&#039;aides au sevrage tabagique, affirmait\u00a0: \u201c\u00a0On fume pour la nicotine, mais on meurt du goudron.\u00a0\u201d Pourtant, au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, les efforts l\u00e9gitimes de sant\u00e9 publique visant \u00e0 r\u00e9duire le tabagisme se sont mu\u00e9s en une guerre injustifi\u00e9e contre la nicotine.<\/p>\n<p>Les m\u00e9dicaments contenant de la nicotine, comme les patchs ou les inhalateurs, sont disponibles sans ordonnance et recommand\u00e9s sans r\u00e9serve aux fumeurs par les autorit\u00e9s sanitaires. Pourtant, ces m\u00eames autorit\u00e9s mettent r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement en garde contre la nicotine pr\u00e9sente dans les cigarettes \u00e9lectroniques. Elles qualifient soudainement cette substance r\u00e9cr\u00e9ative, pourtant consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme inoffensive et aux propri\u00e9t\u00e9s similaires \u00e0 celles de la caf\u00e9ine, de drogue puissante, toxique et addictive.
