Le Royaume-Uni a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 d'importants progr\u00e8s dans la r\u00e9duction du tabagisme au sein de sa population. Aujourd'hui, le pays peut fi\u00e8rement pr\u00e9senter son le plus bas<\/a><\/strong> Les taux de tabagisme n'ont jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi bas. Ces r\u00e9sultats ne sont pas le fruit du hasard, mais de politiques de r\u00e9duction des risques hautement strat\u00e9giques et progressistes. Pourtant, le Royaume-Uni pourrait prendre une d\u00e9cision\u2026 d\u00e9tour inqui\u00e9tant<\/a><\/strong> Ces progr\u00e8s sont compromis. L'examen en cours par le gouvernement des politiques relatives au vapotage et au tabac menace d'an\u00e9antir les acquis.<\/p>\n

En t\u00eate de liste\u00a0: le vapotage. Les ar\u00f4mes des e-liquides, souvent cit\u00e9s par d'anciens fumeurs comme une raison majeure de leur sevrage tabagique, risquent d'\u00eatre soumis \u00e0 des restrictions s\u00e9v\u00e8res. Pour ceux qui ignorent tout du parcours d'un fumeur souhaitant arr\u00eater, la question des ar\u00f4mes peut para\u00eetre futile. Pourtant, elle est cruciale. Les ar\u00f4mes offrent un attrait sensoriel qui d\u00e9tourne les utilisateurs du go\u00fbt de la cigarette. En les limitant potentiellement, nous risquons de priver les fumeurs d'une motivation importante pour passer \u00e0 la cigarette \u00e9lectronique.<\/p>\n

De plus, la praticit\u00e9 des cigarettes \u00e9lectroniques jetables, qui a permis \u00e0 de nombreux fumeurs de s'initier au vapotage, est menac\u00e9e. L'interdiction de ces cigarettes \u00e9lectroniques jetables occulte un enjeu plus global\u00a0: chaque fumeur qui passe \u00e0 la cigarette \u00e9lectronique repr\u00e9sente un progr\u00e8s pour la sant\u00e9 publique.<\/p>\n

Mais le plus d\u00e9concertant est le proposition<\/a><\/strong> L'instauration d'une interdiction de fumer g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelle est envisag\u00e9e. Si l'id\u00e9e d'emp\u00eacher tout enfant atteignant l'\u00e2ge de 14 ans cette ann\u00e9e d'acheter l\u00e9galement des cigarettes peut sembler audacieuse et visionnaire de prime abord, elle comporte un aspect inqui\u00e9tant\u00a0: l'interdiction s'\u00e9tend \u00e9galement aux produits du tabac chauff\u00e9. L'adoption sans r\u00e9serve par le Royaume-Uni d'un id\u00e9al utopique en mati\u00e8re de tabagisme pourrait compromettre l'objectif m\u00eame de r\u00e9duction du tabagisme.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l'autre bout du monde, diff\u00e9rentes approches ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en \u0153uvre, offrant une \u00e9tude de cas int\u00e9ressante sur le potentiel des produits chauff\u00e9s pour les fumeurs. Prenons l'exemple du Japon. Ces sept derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, le Japon a connu une transformation radicale de son paysage tabagique. Le nombre de cigarettes fum\u00e9es<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0a chut\u00e9 de plus de 50%.<\/p>\n

Pour mettre cela en perspective, le march\u00e9 total de la cigarette au Japon pour les neuf premiers mois de 2023 s'\u00e9levait \u00e0 69,4 milliards de cigarettes, contre 144,8 milliards au cours de la m\u00eame p\u00e9riode en 2016. Ce d\u00e9clin spectaculaire est loin d'\u00eatre anodin pour un pays autrefois connu pour sa culture du tabagisme profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Qu\u2019est-ce qui a motiv\u00e9 ce changement\u00a0? L\u2019adoption g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e des produits \u00e0 tabac chauff\u00e9. Ces produits, qui chauffent le tabac au lieu de le br\u00fbler, procurent aux fumeurs la sensation et le rituel de fumer, mais avec des risques consid\u00e9rablement r\u00e9duits. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience japonaise souligne l\u2019importance d\u2019un \u00e9ventail complet d\u2019outils de r\u00e9duction des risques. En adoptant les produits \u00e0 tabac chauff\u00e9, le Japon a r\u00e9duit de moiti\u00e9 le taux de tabagisme en moins de dix ans.<\/p>\n

Pour revenir \u00e0 la position du Royaume-Uni, il est clair qu'interdire ces produits repr\u00e9senterait une occasion manqu\u00e9e consid\u00e9rable. Si le vapotage demeure un outil essentiel dans la r\u00e9duction des risques, l'exemple japonais montre que les produits \u00e0 tabac chauff\u00e9 ont un r\u00f4le \u00e0 jouer dans la r\u00e9alisation de nos objectifs d'un monde sans fum\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

La voie \u00e0 suivre ne doit pas \u00eatre celle des interdictions et des restrictions excessives, mais celle de la compr\u00e9hension et des alternatives. La mission du Royaume-Uni devrait \u00eatre de fournir aux fumeurs tous les outils disponibles pour arr\u00eater de fumer. Du vapotage aux sachets de nicotine en passant par les produits \u00e0 tabac chauff\u00e9, l'accent doit \u00eatre mis sur la r\u00e9duction des risques. Chaque fumeur est diff\u00e9rent, et une approche unique est irr\u00e9aliste et contre-productive.<\/p>\n

Alors que le gouvernement britannique r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit \u00e0 la suite des op\u00e9rations, il devrait s'inspirer de la r\u00e9ussite du Japon. Plut\u00f4t que de dresser des obstacles, nous devrions faciliter l'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction des risques. Adopter un large \u00e9ventail d'alternatives plus s\u00fbres, s'abstenir de restrictions inutiles et soutenir pleinement la r\u00e9duction des risques n'est pas seulement une d\u00e9cision politique, c'est un engagement envers la sant\u00e9 publique.<\/p>\n
