Consommateurs et d\u00e9put\u00e9s europ\u00e9ens exhortent l&#039;Union europ\u00e9enne (UE) \u00e0 agir et \u00e0 suivre l&#039;exemple de la Su\u00e8de en mati\u00e8re de lutte contre le tabagisme. L&#039;UE n&#039;a jusqu&#039;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 mettre en \u0153uvre une strat\u00e9gie efficace pour endiguer le tabagisme, tandis que la Su\u00e8de, seul pays au monde sur le point de devenir un pays sans tabac, attire l&#039;attention gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses remarquables progr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>L&#039;UE, \u00e0 l&#039;instar de nombreux autres pays \u00e0 travers le monde, poursuit une strat\u00e9gie contre-productive pour lutter contre l&#039;\u00e9pid\u00e9mie de tabagisme. Son approche consiste \u00e0 faire passer les produits de substitution pour aussi nocifs que le tabac, \u00e0 en restreindre l&#039;acc\u00e8s et \u00e0 augmenter les taxes afin de les rendre plus chers et de d\u00e9courager leur utilisation. Or, cette strat\u00e9gie donne des r\u00e9sultats plut\u00f4t d\u00e9cevants.<\/p>\n<p>Malgr\u00e9 tous les efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s par les institutions europ\u00e9ennes, le taux de tabagisme dans l&#039;UE reste de 251\u00a0000 fumeurs et environ 700\u00a0000 personnes meurent chaque ann\u00e9e de maladies li\u00e9es au tabagisme.
