Published in October by The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the guidance states that any approved vaping products will be made available for doctors to prescribe. \u201cThis country continues to be a global leader on healthcare, whether it\u2019s our Covid-19 vaccine rollout or our innovative public health measures reducing people\u2019s risk of serious illness,\u201d said Health Secretary Sajid Javid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpening the door to a licensed e-cigarette prescribed on the NHS has the potential to tackle the stark disparities in smoking rates across the country, helping people to stop smoking wherever they live and whatever their background,\u201d added Javid, who has in recent weeks been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/health\/16924735\/ban-smoking-outside-pubs-shut-down-ministers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">criticized<\/a>\u00a0for suggesting a smoking ban outside pubs and restaurants.<\/p>\n<h2>The UK remains a world leader in tobacco harm reduction<\/h2>\n<p>The World Vapers\u2019 Alliance (WVA) and WeVape have recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2021\/07\/09\/uk-institute-officially-recommends-e-cigarettes-as-smoking-cessation-tools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">joined forces to commend<\/a>\u00a0the UK Government for embracing the science with regards to tobacco harm reduction. While the World Health Organisation (WHO) continues to wage a war on vaping and other safer nicotine alternatives through campaigns and such initiatives, the UK has been a leader at reducing tobacco harm and local smoking rates via progressive vape policies. To this effect, whilst commending the UK\u2019s approach, the groups are calling on UK authorities urging them to strive to influence the WHO\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe UK is the world\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2018\/11\/21\/why-the-uks-smoking-rates-are-plummeting-faster-than-the-eus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">leader in harm reduction<\/a>\u00a0and provides an excellent example for the rest of the world on efficient smoking cessation through vaping. Our government has chosen a path that has proven to be fruitful, with science to back that up. In the lead up to WHO\u2019s conference in November, the UK needs to reinforce its commitment to vaping, and encourage other countries to do the same,\u201d said Mark Oates, Director of WeVape.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly ignoring all this data, the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), which was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vapingpost.com\/2021\/11\/01\/global-broadcast-discussing-the-fctc-cop9-planned-to-counter-who-secrecy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">held last month<\/a>, has become synonymous with a forbidding stance which completely disregards the concept of tobacco harm reduction.
