France is planning to ban disposable vapes, or \u201cpuffs\u201d as they\u2019re known in the country, by the end of the year. The government is citing concerns over youth as justification\u2014and claims that banning the vapes will help reduce smoking<\/i>.<\/p>\n

On September 3, Prime Minister \u00c9lisabeth Borne described<\/a> an impending \u201cnew national plan to fight against smoking with, in particular, the prohibition of disposable electronic cigarettes, the famous \u2018puffs\u2019 which give bad habits to young people.\u201d<\/p>\n

French anti-vaping campaigners, like their counterparts elsewhere, have framed colorful packaging and flavors\u2014which are important<\/a> to adults who switch from cigarettes\u2014as ploys to entice youth.<\/p>\n

The French government prohibited vaping in educational institutions back in 2017, but has now deemed this measure inadequate.<\/p>\n

Lo\u00efc Josseran, president of the organization Alliance Contre le Tabac<\/i>(Alliance Against Tobacco), has called<\/a> the upcoming ban \u201ca great victory for civil society\u201d and endorsed the government\u2019s rationale.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese disposable e-cigarettes are acting as a gateway to smoking for young people,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s become an epidemic. It is terrible how the tobacco industry has set out to hook children.\u201d<\/p>\n
