State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Benec R\u00e9tv\u00e1ri, reaffirms that Hungary will continue to treat vaping the same as smoking and won\u2019t overturn the vaping flavour ban.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Landl, Director of the World Vapers\u2019 Alliance, said:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is shocking that the Hungarian government still pedals worn-out and debunked myths about vaping. R\u00e9tv\u00e1ri systematically ignores scientific evidence proving the benefits of vaping, not to mention the first-hand experience of millions of vapers. Vaping is <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/e-cigarettes-around-95-less-harmful-than-tobacco-estimates-landmark-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">95% less harmful<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than smoking and a <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qmul.ac.uk\/media\/news\/2019\/smd\/e-cigarettes-more-effective-than-nicotine-replacement-therapies-finds-major-uk-clinical-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more effective method to quit smoking<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than traditional therapies such as gum and nicotine patches. The Hungarian approach to vaping will do nothing but cost lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The statement is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parlament.hu\/irom42\/03572\/03572-0001.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">written response<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a question asked by MP Laszl\u00f3 Luk\u00e1cs regarding the future treatment of vaping by the Hungarian government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the government refuses to recognize the success of other countries that follow a harm-reduction approach. If they did, it would become clear that the current approach is wrong. The United Kingdom and Sweden are experiencing record-low smoking rates and fewer smoking-induced illnesses than Hungary because they encourage smokers to switch by smart regulation. At the same time, the Hungarian government continues its failing prohibitionist approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The statement shows that Hungary intends to keep ignoring science and spreading misinformation about vaping. This is not a good sign for public health. Vaping is not the same as smoking and must be treated differently. Equating a 95% less harmful alternative with smoking will prevent thousands of smokers from quitting,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d added Landl. <\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 2, Budapest.
