The Croatian government has launched a <\/span>public consultation<\/span><\/a> on a proposal to impose an excise tax of \u20ac0.20\/ml on e-liquids\u2014a move that would drastically raise the cost of vaping for consumers. <\/span><\/p>

Together with our Croatian partner <\/span>CHROM<\/span><\/a>, we submitted an official response to the consultation, urging the government to withdraw the proposed tax and to extend the consultation period to ensure a democratic and evidence-based policy process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The World Vapers\u2019 Alliance is participating in this consultation to present evidence-based arguments against these measures, emphasizing nicotine pouches\u2019 role in<\/span>
smoking cessation and public health improvement.<\/span><\/p>

The Draft Law for the modification of Law 28\/2005, of December 26, on health measures against smoking and regulating the sale, supply, consumption and advertising of tobacco products.<\/span><\/p>

The Danish Government\u2019s draft Act amending the Act on tobacco puts smoking cessation efforts<\/span>
at risk by severely restricting less harmful nicotine products that are alternatives to traditional<\/span>

Spain<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>

The Draft Royal Decree of the Ministry of Health which modifies the Royal Decree 579\/2017, of June 9, which regulates certain aspects related to the manufacture, presentation and marketing of tobacco products and related products is intended to prohibit additives and components that confer aromas on tobacco and related products, among which are in the liquids of electronic cigarettes or vaping devices.<\/span><\/p>

The Therapeutic Goods and Other Legislation Amendment (Vaping Reforms) Bill 2024 aims to prohibit the importation, domestic manufacture, supply, commercial possession and advertisement of non-therapeutic and disposable vaping goods.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Uzbekistan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan\u2019s draft bill on amendments and additions to certain legal acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding prohibition of circulation and liability for tobacco and nicotine devices, electronic cigarettes and tobacco heating systems, including certain types of tobacco products aims to ban the import, production, sale and use of vaping and heated tobacco products.<\/span><\/p>

The Department of Health and Education in Israel issued an invitation for public responses to their newly released Action Plan titled “<\/span>Coping with the Damage of Electronic Cigarettes<\/span><\/a>.” <\/span><\/span><\/p>

United Kingdom:<\/b><\/a><\/p>

The United Kingdom announced a plan to mandate information sheets for smokers on how to quit inserted into cigarette packs. The WVA welcomes this plan but urges the government to also include information about less harmful alternatives for smokers who are not able to quit. Undermining Progress – <\/span>How the European Commission\u2019s Misinformation Hinders Smoking Cessation<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/p>

Health Commissioner Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi has stated that alternative nicotine products are “<\/span>100% as <\/span>harmful as cigarettes<\/span>” and that vaping \u201c<\/span>has created completely new health risks, even bigger than <\/span>smoking, such as popcorn lung<\/span>\u201d. Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra has declared “<\/span>smoking kills, <\/span>vaping kills.<\/span>” These claims are factually wrong and dangerously block smokers from transitioning to <\/span>safer alternatives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>
