While politicians and public health agencies claim to fight for \u201cpublic health,\u201d their policies and research overwhelmingly focus on <\/span>youth vaping<\/b>, completely disregarding the people who are dying from <\/span>smoking-related diseases<\/span><\/a>: <\/span>adults<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Data Doesn\u2019t Lie\u2014Public Health Research Ignores Adults<\/b><\/p>\n

A recent <\/span>analysis<\/span><\/a> of <\/span>970 tobacco control studies<\/b> found:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u2705<\/span> 71% focused only on young people<\/b>
\n<\/span>\u2705<\/span> 75% excluded anyone over 35<\/b>
\n<\/span>\u2705<\/span> Just 0.5% studied middle-aged or older adults<\/b><\/p>\n

This means that <\/span>the very people at risk\u2014long-term smokers over 35\u2014are being ignored in the research that shapes tobacco policy<\/b>. Instead of studying how vaping helps <\/span>older smokers quit<\/b>, resources are spent obsessing over youth experimentation\u2014despite youth smoking rates being at an all-time low.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Are Lawmakers and Public Health Officials Failing Adults?<\/b><\/p>\n

Misdirected Focus on Youth<\/b> \u2013 While protecting youth is important, the reality is that <\/span>youth vaping rates are declining<\/b>, and <\/span>youth smoking is virtually nonexistent<\/b>. But instead of celebrating vaping as a harm reduction tool for adults, lawmakers use fear-based narratives to justify bans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Big Tobacco and Tax Revenue<\/b> \u2013 The more adults quit smoking, the less money governments make from cigarette taxes. Instead of encouraging harm reduction, they <\/span>create barriers<\/b> to vaping\u2014keeping smokers addicted to traditional cigarettes that generate billions in revenue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Misinformation and Fear-Mongering<\/b> \u2013 Public health campaigns spread <\/span>false and misleading information<\/b> about vaping, making smokers <\/span>afraid to switch<\/b> to a proven safer alternative. A majority of adults now wrongly <\/span>believe<\/span><\/a> vaping is as harmful\u2014or more harmful\u2014than smoking.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Consequences of Ignoring Adult Smokers<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s Time to Prioritize Harm Reduction for Adults<\/b><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>\ud83d\udd39<\/span> Fund research on how vaping helps middle-aged and older smokers quit.<\/b>
\n<\/span>\ud83d\udd39<\/span> Stop the misinformation and fear campaigns that discourage adult smokers from switching.<\/b><\/p>\n

We cannot continue to let lawmakers <\/span>ignore the people who are actually dying from smoking<\/b>. Vaping is the most <\/span>effective<\/span><\/a> smoking cessation tool ever devised\u2014<\/span>but only if adults are allowed to access it.<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s time to demand that public health officials, researchers, and lawmakers stop ignoring adult smokers and vapers. The lives of millions depend on it.<\/b><\/p>\n
