With the country close to becoming smoke-free, the WVA warns that this ban could undermine the progress made in reducing smoking rates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New Zealand Ministry of Health has announced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.govt.nz\/system\/files\/documents\/information-release\/smokefree_2025_-_cracking_down_on_youth_vaping_cab-24-min-0084_black_box_watermarked.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ban<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the intention of reducing adolescent vaping. The new regulations prohibit the manufacture and sale of all non-rechargeable and non-refillable vapes, including single-use containers such as pre-filled tanks, pods, and cartridges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The WVA warns that this decision could have detrimental effects on public health, potentially reversing the progress New Zealand has made in reducing conventional smoking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alberto G\u00f3mez Hern\u00e1ndez, Policy Manager at the World Vapers\u2019 Alliance, commented: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPreventing teenagers from using nicotine products is essential, and strict age regulations should be enforced to achieve this goal. However, banning disposable vapes and various pod systems for adult consumers will have negative public health implications and jeopardise the progress towards a smoke-free society achieved in the last decade. This approach fails to recognise the vital role disposable vaping products play in helping smokers transition away from cigarettes.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">G\u00f3mez Hern\u00e1ndez further elaborated on the potential consequences of the ban:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNew Zealand\u2019s progress toward becoming smoke-free is a prime example of how effective harm reduction strategies are.
